Funeral Service for Eugene D. Frank, 88, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiating. Organist will be Ember Dady and soloist will be
Lori Moen. Pallbearers will be Darin Huss, Ryan Mead, Miles Carl, Ben Johnson, Andrew Frank, and Joe Butterfield. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Eugene's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment will be in the Hope Cemetery, Wessington Springs, SD on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M, at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, with family present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the funeral at the Church on Friday.
Eugene Donald Frank was born on February 19, 1925 in Scotland, SD to Herbert and Ida (Gilette) Frank. He graduated from Meckling High School. Eugene served his country during WWII, being honorably discharged from the Navy in August of 1946. Eugene was united in marriage to Phyllis Butterfield on November 20, 1949 in Wessington Springs, SD. The couple lived in Pickstown, Lake Andes and Hot Springs where Eugene was employed by the Federal Government in Civil Service and Phyllis ran a restaurant. The couple moved to Sisseton in 1957, and Eugene became employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. They purchased the Dairy Crème which was later known as A & W Restaurant and operated it for 24 years from 1959 until 1983. The couple then moved to their lake home at Nine Mile Lake. They purchased The Depot Drive In in Veblen, SD which they operated until 2001. Phyllis passed away in May 2003. Eugene then moved back to Sisseton and lived his remaining years among family and friends. Eugene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Lions Club, and The American Legion Post #50 and he volunteered for projects to promote the Sisseton community. Eugene went to be with his Lord on July 29, 2013
Eugene is survived by two sons, Thomas and wife, Gail Frank of Winston-Salem, NC, and Michael and wife Margie Frank of Norfolk, NE; and one daughter, Mary and husband, Randy Carl of Sisseton, SD; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four sister in laws-Karen Butterfield of Wessington Springs, SD, Alta Butterfield of Wessington Springs, SD, Lucille Frank of Wessington Springs, SD and Darlene Frank of Sioux Falls, SD; special friends, Laverne and Linda Larson of Lake City, SD and Betty Lou Nelson of Vermillion, SD.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, Howard and Ray; two brothers in law, Lyle Butterfield and Lee Butterfield and brother in law and sister in law Alan and Dorothy Butterfield.
Memorial may be given to the Roberts County Cancer Society or the First Presbyterian Church, Sisseton, SD.
