Obituary

Funeral Services for Eugene Morton Crawford, Tunkan inyanke, Great Walker, 71, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, South Dakota with Rev. Eugene King and John Cloud III officiating. Pianist will be Kay Bursheim and the Drum Group will be Old AgencySingers. Pallbearers will be Sam Farmer Sr., Steve Farmer Jr., Dustin Kirk,
Floyd Kirk, Harvey Renville Jr., Waylon Goodsell, J.C. Crawford, and Dean Abraham Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stan Cadotte, EdWayne Crawford, Nick Crawford, Dennis Brant, Darrell White, Jacky White, David White, Randy White, Les Barse Sr., Gary Cochran, Grady Renville, Sylvester Goodteacher Sr., Jake DeMarrias, Marcus Wright, Gabe Renville, Sheila Bird, Pam Renville, Barbara LaCroix, Bella Petersen, Mary Wanna, Charlene DuMarce, Tiffany Beaudreau, Lisa Farmer, Karen Farmer, Doreen Heminger, DeVonna Goodteacher, Robin Robertson and Rosemary Shepherd. Interment will be in the Goodwill Presbyterian Cemetery, Agency Village, SD, with Military Rites by the Vietnam Veterans, Kitfox Society, American Legion Post #314, Desert Area Veterans, and Patriot Riders of South Dakota. There will be All-night Wakes Services on Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 P.M. at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD.
Eugene Morton Crawford was born on October 17, 1941 to Morton and Maude (LaBatte) Crawford at IHS Hospital, Sisseton, SD. He attended school at Old Agency Day School, Wahpeton Indian School, and High School at Flandreau Indian School. Following his education Eugene entered the United States Marines on January 26, 1959 and served until September 26, 1963. He earned the Good Conduct Medal. During his time with the Marines he saw Guam Okinawa and Philippines, Cambodia. When returning to the States he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He met Judith Frenier in 1965 and they had Keith, Trisha, Korey, Judy, Carmen and Bo. Throughout his years he was known for his cooking. He was a cook at the Mobile Supper Club, Community Canning Center, and was also Restaurant Manager at Dakota Sioux Casino for many years. He also worked and volunteered cooking for the Elderly Center for the last ten years. Eugene died on May 30, 2013 at Coteau Des Prairie Hospital, Sisseton, SD.
Eugene is survived by his five children, Keith Crawford of Colorado, Korey Bertsch of Sisseton, SD, Beau J. Crawford of Sisseton, SD, Trisha Crawford of Iowa, and Carmen Crawford of Sisseton, SD; one sister, Mayvonne Crawford of Sisseton, SD; fifteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Judy Crawford, and one sister, Patsy Crawford; two brothers, Jimmy and Darrel.
