Funeral Service for Ernest T. Hansen, 90, of Veblen, SD will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Veblen, SD with Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Pallbearers will be David Hansen, Glen Hansen, Paul Hansen, Geoff Thornes, Greg Thornes, and Orren Thornes. Honorary Pallbearers are Russell Berreth and Albert Berreth. Interment will be in the Veblen Cemetery, Veblen, SD. There will be visitation on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Veblen, SD.
Ernest was born on February 6, 1921 northwest of Veblen on what today is the Don Monson place, to John T. and Anna (Dahm) Hansen. At the age of 4 the family was uprooted and moved nearly three miles to the northeast. When he was 6, Ernest began attending Fairview School. He completed his education there and went on to attend one year of high school in Veblen. One winter in his early 20's he and three other local men ventured to the west coast. There Ernest took a job with Consolidated Aircraft. He returned home to farm the following spring and pursued that career path through 1984. On August 5, 1985 he married Gladys Berreth with whom he shared the next 26 years of his life. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, bowling, and playing cards. Ernest passed away in Marshall, MN on January 17, 2012.
Ernest is survived by two stepsons Albert and Marsha Berreth of Pierre, SD, and Russell and Kate Berreth of Marshall, MN, his only sister Carrie Thornes of Brookings, SD, and brother Elvyn Hansen of Pierre, SD, six step grandchildren James, Jacob, Andrew, and Rebecca Berreth and Braeden and Belanna Berreth, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and six brothers Jack, George, Edwin, Herbert, Paul and Peter.
