Elwood Greybuffalo, 85, of Rosholt, SD passed away on February 14, 2019 at his home. Funeral Service will be Monday, February 18, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center in Agency Village, SD. Wake service will be Saturday, February 16 at 7:00 PM and All Night Wake Service Sunday, February 17 at 7:00 PM both at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center. Officiating is Pastor Morgan Redday, Pastor Nippy Owen, and Lay Reader Michael LaFontaine. Drum group and traditional services will be from the Cook Family. Pianist is Billy Kohl. Military Rights will be from the Woodrow Wilson Keeble American Legion Post #314. Pallbearers will be Brian Qualley, Lloyd LaBelle, Clinton Sederberg, Aaron Schiembeck, Jay Greybuffalo, Caleb Greybuffalo, Timothy Nowick Jr., William Varns. Honorary pallbearers will be Rosie Maskewit, Mitchell Maskewit, and all of Elwood's friend, family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Interment will be at the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Veterans Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Elwood Levi Greybuffalo, son of the late John Greybuffalo and Goldie Varns was born June 29, 1933, at Whitestone Lake Sisseton, South Dakota. He attended country school for 4 years at Drywood Lake and then Sisseton public school graduating in 1951. He was united in holy matrimony to Sharon Curry July 1, 1961. This union was blessed with five children. Elwood also started the first Native American boy scouts in Sisseton.

On Oct. 29, 1956 Elwood joined the Air Force and was based in Holloman AFB, New Mexico. There he worked as a crew chief working on all types of air craft's and was honorably discharged Oct. 28, 1960. After his discharge, he worked as a social worker and worked in child protection he retired from as the planning director with the Sisseton Wapheton Oyate where he full-filled his career. He maintained multiple positions throughout the tribe in his retirement. When he was younger his hobbies were being a pitcher for the American Legion of Sisseton; he also played basketball with the FFA when he attended Sisseton High School. He attended college where he received his BA in Sociology and Political Science from the University of Minnesota in the year 1985. One of his greatest life accomplishments was helping bring collegiate education to the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate.

As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, he was loved by many. He quietly departed this life in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was preceded in death by his Father John Grey Buffalo, mother Goldie Ella Varns, daughter Anna Marie Greybuffalo, a baby sister and his brothers Duane John Greybuffalo, Henry Orville Greybuffalo great grand-daughter Mayah Rae Greybuffalo.

His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife Sharon Greybuffalo; children: Alice Greybuffalo, Elwood Greybuffalo Jr., Leslie (Carol) Greybuffalo both of Sioux Fall, SD, Ella Mae Greybuffalo of Rosholt, SD, Rhonda (Clinton) Sederberg of South Shore, SD; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine (Darryl) Rousseau of Sisseton, SD, Betty Lou Greybuffalo of Deer Creek, Minnesota;
