Eloise "Loy" (Vig) Olson passed away November 15, 2012 at Tekakwitha Living Center. She was 90 years old.
Eloise Lucille Vig was born on May 1, 1922 in Claire City, SD, to Bennie and Elsie (Wenschlag) Vig. When she was a young girl, the family moved to Morris, MN, where Loy attended school, graduating from Morris High School in 1940. She then went to West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, graduating with a business degree. There she also met Warren Olson, her future husband.
While Warren was serving in the Navy during WWII, Loy worked as a secretary and stenographer at Gamble-Skogmo in Minneapolis. The couple married on August 2, 1946 in Morris. They moved to Cyrus, MN, where Warren and his brother Pat operated the Red Owl Store. They had two children during this time, and Loy became a full-time wife and mother.
In 1954, the family moved to Sisseton, SD, and opened a new Red Owl store, which they operated until 1989. Two more children were born to the couple in Sisseton.
Loy led an active life which included golfing, bowling, bridge club, and numerous church activities. Later on, she enjoyed traveling, relaxing at the lake, and being with her grandchildren. Music was always an important part of her life. She sang in ensembles in high school, played the trumpet in the marching band, and played piano and organ throughout her life.
She is survived by four children, Dennis Olson of Sisseton, SD, Steven and (Linda) Olson of Ellensburg, WA, Connie and (Don) Lubbert of Waterloo, IA, and Tim Olson of Watertown, SD; her sister Beverly (Al) Schmidt of Morris, MN; four grandchildren, Carey (Shawn) Olson-Findley of Seattle, WA, Cavan Olson of Ellensburg, WA, Alison Lubbert of Rochester, MN, and Adrienne Lubbert of Monterey, CA.
Loy was preceded in death by her husband Warren, her parents, her sister Elaine Rabel, and a granddaughter, Leigh Lubbert.
