Funeral Service for Elnora Mae DeMaris, 81 of Ortley, SD will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at the Ortley Free Lutheran Church, Ortley, SD, with Pastor Robert J. Grebel officiating. Organist will be Carol Goble with special music by Deverne and Jan Rickard. Pallbearers will be Christopher Rondell, AJ DeMaris, Tony Breske, Justin Fisher, Justin Currey, and Amanda DeMaris. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Elnora's Native American Friends, Schiltz Food Employees and all her other relatives. Interment will be in the Summit City Cemetery, Summit, SD. There will be visitation on Monday, November 21, 2016 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with family present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Elnora Mae Schoenherr was born on January 29, 1935 to Ben and Ida (Schoenherr) Eck in rural Ortley, SD. She attended grade school in Watertown, SD and then moved to Hammond, IN and graduated high school. She married Thomas DeMaris on October 25, 1952 in Watertown, SD. They lived and farmed North of Summit, SD; in 1962 they moved to Sisseton, SD and moved to various towns. In 1972 they moved to Waubay, SD then on to Summit area. In 2012 Elnora moved to Ortley.
Elnora worked for Landsburger's and Schiltz Food for 51 seasons. She attended church in Ortley. She enjoyed bingo, cards, fishing, baseball especially the Minnesota Twins and the Atlanta Braves, horse races in Aberdeen and Fargo, baking cookies and caramel rolls, liked to go to South Shore Ho Down and music.
She is survived by her children Donna and Tim Iron Star of Sioux Falls, SD, Thomas and Barbara DeMaris of Ortley, SD and Allan DeMaris Sr. of Ortley, SD; sister-in-law Audrey Bucklin of Peever, SD; three grandchildren; Allan DeMaris Jr., Amanda DeMaris, and Christopher Rondell, nine great grandchildren and several step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
