Ellen "Ellie" Madeline Hauser, 67, of Detriot Lakes, MN formerly of Waubay, SD passed away on September 9, 2020 at her sister's home in Sisseton, SD surrounded by family. Funeral Service will be Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at the Enemy Swim Community Center, Enemy Swim, S D with Rev. Fr. Charles Chan, Valorie Augusrson, Irene Rondell, and St. James' Lay Readers officiating. Pall bearers will be Alex Owens, Christian Owens, Wesley Hensley, Rebecca Hensley, Julia Flute Player, Garrett Iyarpeya, Dallas Boucher, Natalie Anderson, and Dakota WolfVoice. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kyle Cook, Tim Williams, Conan Louie, Bernie Sampson, Peg Markey, Suzie Balsdon, Nikki Brown, Sunny Brown, Darwin Greeley, and Doris Ost Palmer. Interment will be at a later date. There will be an all night wake on Friday, September 11, 2020 starting at 7:00 also at the Enemy Swim Community Center. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Ellen was born December 14, 1952 in Waubay, South Dakota to Ira and Edith (Iyarpeya) Owens. Her parents moved to Wahpeton, ND where she was raised and graduated from Wahpeton Senior High. Ellen moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota, when Burlington Northern Railroad offered her a position as a Brakemen-Switchmen, she returned to the Breckenridge-Wahpeton area and began her career with the railroad, attaining the position of Locomotive Engineer. Ellie met Robert Hauser Jr. who was also a Locomotive Engineer and they were married in August of 1988. Together they shared a love of life at the lake living outside the city of Detroit Lakes, MN where they made their home until they both retired. Ellie was a friend to a lot of people who loved her & she will be missed by all. Ellie wrote articles for the Fergus Falls, MN A.B.A.T.E. organization. She was a member of the daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed traveling, concerts, reading and motorcycle riding, & made annual trips to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with her friends in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Ellen will have her ashes taken to the Black Hills as was her wish.
Ellen is survived by her sisters Lorraine Wolf Voice of Sisseton, SD, Aurelia Louie of Omak, WA, Lois Owens of Sisseton, SD, Grace Frazier of Sisseton, SD, Arlene Owens of Sisseton, SD, Annette Black Thunder of Waubay, SD and brothers Leonard Owens of Sisseton, SD, William Owens of Waubay, SD and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
