Ellen Marvel Crater, 79, of Sisseton, SD formally of Cheyenne, WY passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton, SD. Celebration of Life Service will be held on July 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Cahill Funeral Chapel with Pastor Abigail Ozanne officiating. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery.

Ellen Marvel Groos was born on April 28, 1939, in Sisseton, SD to Marvin and Inga Groos. She passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019  surrounded by her loving family. Ellen was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in Sisseton. She attended Sisseton Public School, graduating in 1957.

Ellen lived in Sisseton until 1961 when she moved to Minneapolis, MN. In October of 1965, she moved to Phoenix, AZ. There, she met and married Kenneth Crater. They were married on July 8, 1967 in Maryvale, AZ. To this union a son, Gordon DuWayne, was born. A son, Bradley John, was stillborn in 1980 in Webster, SD.

Ellen worked as a bookkeeper, customer service representative, and medical transcriptionist until 2003 when she retired. Ellen and Ken liked to travel. She had been in 37 states, Canada, and Mexico. She loved to dance, write, knit, and do arts and crafts.

Ellen is survived by her son, Gordon (Amy) DuWayne of Cheyenne, WY; sisters Carol Botsford of Union Grove, WI, and Donna Salembier of Sisseton; brothers, DuWayne Groos (Betty) of Flandreau, SD, and Gordie Groos (Judy) of Sisseton; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Ellen is preceded in death by her husband Ken; son Bradley; parents Marvin and Inga Groos; nephew Daniel Salembier; grandparents Andrew and Anna Groos and Ingebrit and Marit Lyngen; many aunts, unciles, and cousins.
