Obituary for Elizabeth (Bette) Staub

Bette (Elizabeth Corinne) was born to Charles and Tina (0tteson) Fine at Sheyenne, North Dakota, July 6, 1920. She graduated from Jamestown College, Jamestown, N.D., and taught English, Latin and Music in high schools in central North Dakota. In 1943 she married Larry (Laurence) Staub and moved to Virginia, Minnesota, where Larry taught chemistry. In 1947 they moved to Longview, Washington, where he taught Chemistry at Lower Colombia College.
Bette was a private piano teacher for many years and was active in the Cowlitz Valley Music Teachers. She was supportive of local music and arts programs and progressive social issues. Meeting and visiting with Eleanor Roosevelt in Longview was a highlight for her.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church with life-long friends. She and Larry enjoyed extended travel to East Coast 1960 and Europe in 1969.
Survivors include her son, Dr David Staub, and spouse, Lindy, of Sisseton, South Dakota, and their three children, John, Hannah, and, Ailsa. Her daughter, Suzanne Hill, and spouse, Ty, live in Beaverton, Oregon, and her son, Tyler Tushkov. She has many nieces and nephews scattered across the United States, and six young great grandchildren.
Because of failing health she moved to Canterbury Park / Inn in 2008 and to Sisseton, South Dakota, in March of 2013. She verbalized the sense that life was ending shortly and died peacefully in her chair, in God's Grace, Thursday evening, September 18, 2014 at the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton.
The Funeral Service for Bette will be Monday, September 29, 2014, at 11:00am, at Longview Memorial Park, at the family plot. Family and friends are welcome to join us.
