Elaine Noyes
July 14, 1920 – April 7, 2016

Memorial services for Elaine Noyes, 95 of Sisseton, SD., formerly of Coos Bay, Oregon to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 14th, 2016 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Sisseton, SD. The Rev. Jerry Ranek will officiate.
Elaine was born July 14, 1920 in Marshfield, Oregon to Ruth M. Hedden-Hill and Merritt T. Hill. However she was raised by her mother Ruth and stepfather Joseph Clare Murphy. She passed away in Fargo, ND April 7th, 2016 with her children John, Gayle and Beverly at her side.
Elaine grew up in the Coos Bay, Oregon area attending St. Monica's Catholic School and Marshfield High School, graduating in 1938. While in high school Elaine was active in band, playing the trumpet and French horn. She was honored to have played in the marching band at the opening ceremonies for the McCullough Bridge. Since Elaine's mother worked during her school years Elaine was a support system for her younger sisters. In 1940 Elaine married Burton Anderson of North Bend, having two children, John and Gayle.
After their divorce Elaine worked as a waitress at The Highway Café in Bunker Hill. That's where she met Clyde T. Noyes. After dating for a couple of months Clyde stopped by the café one day and asked when her next day off would be and if she would like to go get married. So, the following Wednesday, March 1st, 1950 they were married by the Presbyterian minister in North Bend, OR. That was the beginning of their 57 years together. Shortly after their marriage Clyde was called back into the Navy, after he returned home, daughter Beverly arrived in January of 1953. Mom spent many hours involved with activities for the kids including the PTA, Brownies, Girl Scouts, football, prom as well as other activities. In those times the parents worked together putting up canned goods for the school lunch program. Elaine also enjoyed sewing for herself and daughters Gayle and Beverly and mending for son John.Elaine enjoyed working as a bookkeeper for a number of businesses in the Coos Bay Area including, Montgomery Wards, Industrial Steel, The Emporium Clothing Store and The Hub Department Store, retiring in 1975. Mom and Dad greatly enjoyed evenings out dancing, their favorite being the Jitterbug. Through the years Mom enjoyed many hobbies, sewing of course, which included piecing and hand quilting quilts for all of her immediate family, playing Pinochle and then learning to play Whist after she moved to South Dakota, embroidery, machine embroidery, crocheting, knitting, canning, working in her flowers and a bit of genealogy research (before the internet). Mom was very proud of her heritage and that her family had come to the Coos Bay area from Kentucky in 1897. She was also very proud the Hedden Family had reached their 50thAnnual Family Reunion in 2014.

Some of Elaine's most enjoyable getaways included camping & blackberry picking trips up Smith River above Reedsport, OR and camping in other areas along the Oregon Coast as well as her and Clyde's annual hunting/camping trips into the wilderness of Eastern Oregon near John Day. Upon retirement Elaine and Clyde traveled with friends to Yuma, AZ, helped daughter Beverly remodel her home in North Bend, spent more time camping and later made numerous trips back and forth to visit in South Dakota. In 2008 Elaine permanently moved to Sisseton, SD to be nearer family.
Elaine is survived by son John and Susan Anderson of Baker City, OR, daughter Gayle DeLateur of Clovis, CA and daughter Beverly Noyes-Hanson and Tim Hanson of Sisseton, SD. Grand Children and Great-Grand Children, Clinton Anderson and sons Russell and Douglas of Brandon, FL, Sennie and Randy DeLonge and Chris and Brynna of Grants Pass, OR and Susan DeLateur of Bakersfield, CA. Longtime friends Betty Mault and Marie Stewart of Coos Bay, OR.
She was preceded in death by husband Clyde in 2007, her parents, brother Donald Murphy, sister Mary Kathleen Meyer, brother-in-law Edward J. Meyer, sister Alice Patricia Demaray, son-in-law Charles F. DeLateur in 2015 and all of her first cousins Alice Griesbach, Lynn Harris, Betty Weber and Alice Dilley.
