Elaine Margery Sattler was born January 18, 1944 in Britton, SD to Henry and Rose (Neuberger) Sattler. She was the older of two children and was a caring and loving daughter and sister. She graduated from Roslyn High School in 1962 and soon after moved to Sisseton where she was employed at Sisseton Bottle Gas as a secretary/bookkeeper for the next 3 years. She was united in marriage to Sherman Heinecke on June 5, 1965 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church. Together they set up a small farm near Peever on rented land and eventually purchased the original Heinecke homestead northeast of Sisseton. She was a mother of three and grandmother to four; always supportive and encouraging, always wise and kind, she was proud of all their accomplishments whether big or small. Her family meant everything to her; she endlessly sacrificed her needs for the good of her family, never in question. Elaine began working at the Sisseton public school system in 1978; where she received a Paraprofessional Certification in 2004. Beginning her career at the Westside Elementary in the special education department then transferring to the Middle School where she aided in the library and the language arts department. Retiring in 2015, but continued to substitute for the next few years. She truly delighted in working with children and they were drawn to her mentoring spirit. She found great joy in simple pleasures of tending to her flowers, sipping coffee on the deck, shopping day trips; cherished time spent with her family and close friends. She had an appreciation for the arts and expressed her creative side by her gardening and decorating skills; which were in no doubt passed on. Through the years she participated in various memberships; Quilting Club, Gardening Club, St. Peters' Catholic Church Women's Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. Elaine Margery (Sattler) Heinecke, 78, of Sisseton, passed away peacefully April 07, 2022 at home under the loving care of Prairie Lakes Hospice, surrounded by her family and dear friends.
She is survived by and will be dearly missed by all, especially her husband Sherman of Sisseton, her children Ronda Bucklin of Washougal, WA, Leslie Heinecke of Sisseton and Melissa Heinecke (Steve Thiede) of Medford, WI; her grandchildren Benjamin Bucklin (Lilly), Olivia Heinecke, Ramsey Heinecke & Seong Bucklin; her brother Duane Sattler (Dawn) of Sisseton, in-laws and nieces and nephews.
