Funeral Service for Elaine Aadland, 72, of Sisseton, SD. will be held on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD. with the Rev. Jeff Kalb officiating. Pallbearers will be David, Dean, Scott, Steve, Donn and Colt Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Elaine's Family and Friends. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, South Dakota. There will be visitation on Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 1:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at the Cahill Funeral Chapel. There will be visitation one hour prior to the services at the church.
Elaine Dorothy Johnson was born on January 23, 1936 at Tekakwitha Hospital, Sisseton, SD to Henry and Martha (Wolff) Johnson. Elaine was baptized at Norway Lutheran Church in rural Roberts County on May 11, 1936. She was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton on October 16, 1949. Elaine attended country school in Enterprise Township, Roberts County, South Dakota. Following her education she worked on the family farm before beginning her career as a nurses aid at Tekakwitha hospital in 1954. She worked a combined forty three years at Tekakwitha, Community, and Coteau Des Prairies Hospitals, where her patients received excellent care. Elaine married Percy Aadland on April 17, 1955 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD. Elaine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed dancing to old time music played by her brother Harold's band. She was an excellent cook who always enjoyed entertaining friends and family during the holidays. Elaine was an avid Minnesota Twins Fan. She loved watching and listening to their games, and she loved collecting antiques. Elaine was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. Elaine passed away on October 6, 2008 in the Palliative Care Unit at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Percy Aadland of Sisseton, SD, three sons, Terry Aadland and Darin Aadland of Sisseton, SD, and Mike (Shannon) Aadland of West Fargo, ND; one daughter, Cheryl (Todd) Bassett of Wilmot, SD; three grandchildren, Holly Bassett of Castlewood, SD , Heather Bassett of Watertown, SD and Meghan Aadland of Fargo, ND; five brothers, Wayne (Patty) Johnson of Sisseton, SD, Harold Johnson of Sisseton, SD, Stanley Johnson and Rodney (Linda) Johnson of Everett, Washington, and Ron (Paulette) Johnson of Forest Lake, MN.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents.
