Edith Elizabeth (Hannasch) Just was born May 3, 1918 to Bernard and Anna (Trautner) Hannasch in Sisseton, SD. She spent her childhood on the family farm, the second of nine children, until she met and married George Just on July 23, 1942. Edith and George raised eight children and farmed in Sisseton until George's passing in 1984. After raising her family, she worked for many years at the school and also for Miracle Styles clothing store. Edith was very active at St. Peter's Church as a member of the Altar Society and frequently as a greeter at Saturday evening Mass. She enjoyed keeping busy with her home. Her door was always open, and she took great pleasure in visits from family and friends who were treated to homemade goodies and a cup of coffee, or a nice glass of wine. On many mornings she could be found having coffee at Country Kitchen with friends. Conversation was especially important to her, and it was in this way that she touched so many lives. Her love of life was obvious, and those who loved her will remember the wonderful sense of humor and contagious laughter that she maintained right up to her passing. Edith took great pride in her family, always showing interest in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a great cook and her fried chicken was famous among her family members. Although they tried, no one has been able to replicate the knack she had for it! During her lifetime,
Edith was an avid reader of the Sisseton Courier and the Watertown Public Opinion. Even later in life, she could relay the information she'd learned in great detail after reading the newspaper from cover to cover. Edith passed away on December 7, 2016 at the Marshall County Health Care Center, Britton, SD.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, two sons, Dennis and Curtiss, one daughter, Lynette and six siblings. She is survived by her children Rodney (Janice) Just of Rapid City, SD; Terry (Jan) Just of Spearfish, SD; Doug (Connie) Just of Sisseton, SD; Cindi (Norman) Himle of Spearfish, SD; Bill Just of Phoenix, AZ; and Madonna Lewis of Florence, AZ; two sisters, Laverne Metz of Denver, CO and Evelyn Adams of Kansas City, KS; as well as 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; and one sister-in-law Rita Hannasch of Sisseton, SD.
