Funeral Service for Dwight L. Tasa, 82, of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, South Dakota with Rev. Joshua Knudsen officiating. Organist will be Ollie Yost and soloist will be Brooks Tasa. Pallbearers will be Paul Johnston, Jason Hannasch, Tony Tasa, Ben Tasa, Garrett Tasa, and Victoria Blanchard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dwight's Nephews, Nieces, Great Nieces & Nephews, and a Great-great Nephew. Interment will be in the Scandia Cemetery, Sisseton, South Dakota with Military Rites by Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342 and Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and the SD Army National Guard Honor Guard. There will be visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD, starting at 10:00 A.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Dwight Lane Tasa was born on May 19, 1944, at Hankinson, North Dakota to Magnus and Agnes (Navratil) Tasa. At the time of his birth his father was in the US Army, so Dwight and his mother lived with her parents on the Navratil Farm just North of New Effington, SD. Following his father's discharge from the service they lived in New Effington until moving to Sisseton. Growing up, he spent many  summers at the Navratil Farm. He was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. Dwight graduated from Sisseton High School in 1962. After high school he worked for a couple of years at Warren's Red Owl Grocery Store. He entered the US Army on July 27, 1964 and was discharged on July 3, 1967. He was in the Reserves from 7/4/1967 to 7/26/1970. Dwight attended Northern State College in Aberdeen from 1967 to 1971. He returned to Sisseton for a couple of years. In 1973, Dwight moved to Rapid City, SD where he began his teaching career. He taught geography and industrial arts at North Junior High, retiring after 26 1/2 years. During these years he was in the Army National Guard beginning June 29, 1973, was activated November 21, 1990 to June 3, 1991 in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm, and retired from the National Guard with a rank of MSG E-8 on June 28, 1991. During his 24 years of service, he earned the following medals: Bronze Star, SW Asia Service Medal with 2 BSS,  National Defense Service Medal. Army Service Ribbon, Army Lapel Button, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Commendation Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Achievement Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Forces Reserve Medal; Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M-16). He was very proud to have been in the Army and National Guard serving his country following in the footsteps of his father who served in WWII, his uncle Joe who served in Germany, and his uncle Eddie who served in Japan and Korea. Dwight returned to Sisseton in August 2021 to be closer to family. He loved to cook, garden, fish, golf,  play cards, do woodworking and was an avid coin collector. He always remembered his nieces and nephews at Christmas, giving each one a special coin. Through the years he sent home many jars of jelly that he made in Rapid City. He was a life member of Ft. Sisseton VFW Post #3342 and a member of Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50, Rapid City Elks Club, and Eagles Club. Dwight passed away peacefully at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota on June 25, 2026.

Dwight is survived by his siblings Garnette Aas of Sisseton, SD, Mark and Ann Tasa of Sisseton, SD, Kaye Cahill of Sisseton, SD, Faye and Robert Johnston of Sisseton, SD, Barry and Radell Tasa of Humphrey, NE, Millicent and Kenneth Hannasch of Sisseton, SD, and Jay and Rachel Tasa of Sisseton, SD; numerous nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, one great great nephew; and a good friend, Jenny Sweesy of Rapid City, SD.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents Magnus and Agnes Tasa; an infant sister Colleen; nephews John Hannasch and Dana Aas; niece Lisa Aas; brother-in-laws Tom Cahill and Richard Aas; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles.
