Funeral Service for Duane Morris His Law Sr., Tatanka Sapa Mani, "Black Buffalo Walking," 73 of Waubay, SD will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at the Enemy Swim District Center, Enemy Swim, South Dakota with the Episcopal Lay Readers Officiating. The Drum Group will be Noisy Bear. The Pall Bearers will be Arnold Anderson, James Anderson, Bruce His Law, Duane His Law Jr., KeAndre Grant-Campbell, Curtis Rondell-Szoktor, Chris Fayant, Sr., Dillion Blue Dog, and Charlie Vermillion. Honorary Pallbearers will be SWO Head Start Staff, Toka Nuwan Elderly Execs., Barb Iyarpeya, Toka Nuwan Pow-Wow Committee, Noreen Iyarpeya, Ruth Iyarpeya, Henry (Hank) Iyarpeya and Family, Jen Shepherd, Valorie Auguston, Irene Rondell, Terran Williams, Lolita Seaboy, Rod Fayant, Davonte His Law, Dennis Gill Sr., and all of Duane's Family & Friends. There will be a Wake Service on Wednesday, January 17th starting at 7:00 P.M. and an All-Night Wake on Thursday, January 18 starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Enemy Swim District Center. Interment will be at the Gill Family Cemetery, Enemy Swim, SD at a later date. Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Duane was born to Jerris His Law and Enore (Keeble) Anderson on August 17, 1950, at Rosebud, SD. He was recently chairman for the Toka Nuwan Elderly Execs. until his illness. He was also the Vice Chairman of the Toka Nuwan District and Housing Board Rep for Toka Nuwan in the past. He also worked for the Toka Nuwan District as Security. He was the Enemy Swim Head Start Bus Driver for the last 24 years until his retirement in June 2023. He played softball in his early years. He also enjoyed watching softball. He enjoyed watching football, his favorite team is the Green Bay Packers. Before being employed at Head Start, he worked at the Dakota Poultry in Watertown until it closed down. He enjoyed Pow-Wow's and Singing and was a District Chairman. He was a Foster Parent and took care of his two grandchildren. He journeyed to the spirit world January 11, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Webster, SD.
Duane is survived by his wife Roxanne His Law; children Bruce His Law, Heather His Law, Duane His Law Jr., Bobbie Jo His Law, and Brittney His Law; brothers Randy His Law of Fort Thompson, Arnold Anderson of Republic, Michigan, James Anderson of Republic, Michigan, and Henry (Hank) Iyarpeya of Enemy Swim; sisters Roberta Roberts of Michigamme, Michigan, Robyn Rumpca of Maplewood, Minnesota, Michelle His Law of Chamberlain, SD, Katherine Hackett of Sturgis, SD, Noreen Iyarpeya of Enemy Swim, SD, Ruth Iyarpeya of Enemy Swim, SD, and Irene Roberts; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews & grandchildren.
Duane is preceded in death by his parents Enore Anderson and Jerris His Law; his children April Rondell, Bertilla Eagle, and Benjamin Eagle; brothers Nathan His Law Sr., Robert His Law Sr., Earl Anderson, Curtis Anderson, Randy Iyarpeya and Robert Iyarpeya; Sisters Amanda Roberts, Aileen Roberts, Janell Anderson, Beth Ann His Law, and Geraldine Harrison; maternal grandparents Matt Gill Jr and Eva Hayes; paternal grandparents Marion His Law and Bessie Black Stone.
