Funeral Mass for Douglas James Karst, 65 of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on June 19, 2026, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, South Dakota with Fr. Ken Lulf Celebrant. There will be Visitation prior to the service on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30. Organist will be Bill Nelson and Song Leader will be Megan Nieland. Pallbearers will be Jason Karst, Jacob Karst, Jeremy Karst, Tyson Richter, Josh Karst, and Gage Karst. Honorary Pallbearers will be  all of Douglas Family & Friends. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, South Dakota. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Douglas James Karst was born October 4, 1960, in Sisseton, South Dakota, to Joseph and Lois (Herniman) Karst. He grew up on the family farm near Peever with his six brothers: Frank, David, Gary, Kevin, Greg, and Jim. Doug loved talking about his days on the farm and sharing stories of the many shenanigans he and his brothers would get into. He attended school in Sisseton until the age of 17, then went to work for the I-29 Road Construction Company, where he helped build bridges. During that time, he met Leah Iverson. They were married for two years and had one daughter, Heather. After his time on the road, Doug moved back home, where he met Marlene Jacobson. They were married for 24 years and had two children, Joshua and Rachael.

Doug worked at Hellwig's Flooring and later opened his own business, Doug's Floor Covering. He took tremendous pride in his work and always went above and beyond for those he served. Doug was known for his determination and strong work ethic. He was never one to sit still and was always working on something, whether it was a flooring project, helping a friend, fixing something around the house, or tackling a new challenge. No matter what the obstacle, Doug was determined to see things through and do the job right. Years later, Doug began working at the Roberts County Courthouse, where he remained until his retirement.

Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on random projects, but most of all, he loved playing cards with his brothers and nephews. Aside from his hobbies, Doug cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. Between building things, doing crafts, playing board games, or going to the "honey hole," you never knew what adventure awaited when you visited Grandpa's house. Doug always made sure everyone around him was taken care of, no matter what. He had a story to tell, a joke to share, or a quick-witted comeback ready for anyone. His determination, generosity, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Doug is survived by his children, Heather (Nathan) Creekmore of San Diego, California; Joshua (Chelsey) Karst of Waubay, South Dakota; and Rachael (Jeffrey) Bailey of Britton, South Dakota; his grandchildren, Juliet and Tyson Richter of San Diego, California, Gage Karst of Waubay, South Dakota, and Ryne and Reese Bailey of Britton, South Dakota; his brothers, Frank (Cheryl) Karst of Lake City, South Dakota, Gary Karst of Waseca, Minnesota, and Greg Karst of Sisseton, South Dakota; nieces Carrie Karst of Waseca, Minnesota, Jessica (Chad) Mears of Fargo, North Dakota, Julia Karst of Waubay, South Dakota, Joanna Karst of Waubay, South Dakota, Kristin Ridley of Fargo ND and Jen Karst of Waubay, South Dakota; nephews Jason Karst of Sisseton, South Dakota, Jacob Karst of Watertown, South Dakota, Jeremy Karst of Mankato, Minnesota, Nick Karst of Owatonna, Minnesota, Justin Karst of Borup, MN and Joe Karst of Waubay, South Dakota; and sister-in-law Donna Karst of Sisseton, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Karst; his parents, Joseph and Lois Karst; his brothers, David, Kevin, and Jim; and his nephew, David Jr. ("Tubby") and a niece Jamie Karst.

Doug will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
