Obituary

Funeral Mass for Dorothy Bernice Waletich, 88, of Waconia, MN formerley of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, December 7, 2015 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD at 10:30 A.M. with celebrant Rev. Fr. Jerry Ranek and organist John Thuringer and song leader Cindy Marohl. Pallbearers will be Jesse Waletich, Davis Oetken, Nicholas Waletich, Sydney Oetken, Katelyn Waletich and Jackson Oetken. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Visitation will be Sunday, December 6, 2015 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. with a 4:30 P.M. Rosary at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD. Cahill Funeal Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy was born Sept. 2, 1927 in Graceville, MN to Bernard and Frances (Christle) Fromelt. She attended 1st thru 12th grades at St. Joseph School in Grenville, SD and graduated in 1946. She then attended Northern State Teacher's College, Aberdeen in 1947 and later obtained a teaching position in Twin Brooks, SD. Dorothy married Leo Waletich Feb. 4th, 1948 in Grenville at St. Joseph Church. Dorothy belonged to St. Joseph Church in Grenville and St. Peter's Church in Sisseton. They raised their six children in Grenville and Sisseton.
Dorothy worked at Tekakwitha Nursing Home, Sisseton Library, and the Wards Catalog Store. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 60 yrs. During the summer months she enjoyed fishing and gardening and working at their Lake View Steakhouse on Pickerel Lake.
Following Leo's retirement from Sisseton High School in 1985 they moved to Grenville and resided at the home they built themselves from field stone they hauled from farm fields, bricks from burned buildings and lumber from the steakhouse along with broiling, baking and cooking equipment. Often Dorothy would reminisce about the hours hauling rock, brick and lumber, along with long hours of painting and staining of the beautiful open-beam home. Dorothy and Leo later moved to Waconia, MN in 1994 where Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph Church. Dorothy liked to be involved with family, friends and her grandchildren. She moved to Venice, FL in 2012 and lived with her daughter, Diane and husband Stephen. She enjoyed the warm weather and the beach. She later returned to Waconia where she spent her time playing bingo, listening to music and bird watching.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Paul and wife Kathy of Champlin, MN, Wayne and his wife Trish of Ellenton, FL, Diane and her husband Stephen of Venice, FL, Mike of Coon Rapids, MN, Terry and his wife Jill of Waconia, MN, and Carol and her husband Peter of Tea, SD. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jesse and his wife, Afaf of Washington, DC, Nicholas of St. Louis Park, MN, Katelyn of Waconia, MN, Davis, Sydney and Jackson of Tea, SD, and also one sister Marie, of Burlington, IL.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leo, brothers, Harold, Bernard and Clarence and sisters, Delores, Lorraine, Florence (Honey), Georgine and Eleanor.
