Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Ann Fonder, 85, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010, at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Norman Volk, O.M.I., celebrant. Organist will be Colette Hull and song leader will be Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers will be Chad Nigg, Gabe Guthrie, Angela Guthrie, Alyson Guthrie, Greg Stillson, David Stillson, and Jeff Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Dorothy's nieces and nephews. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Sunday, October 17, 2010, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and a Rosary at 7:00 PM at the Cahill Funeral Chapel. There will be visitation at the church on Monday, one hour prior to the funeral.
Dorothy Ann Fischer was born on May 24, 1925, in Richland County, North Dakota, the oldest daughter of Michael and Mabel (Hetland) Fischer. Dorothy grew up and attended school in Richland County, ND. She spent her first two years of High School at St. Francis Academy in Hankinson, ND and graduated from Sisseton High School. She attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD, and earned her teaching degree. Dorothy taught elementary school in rural South Dakota. On June 20, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to LaVerne Fonder of Sisseton, SD at St. Peter's Catholic Church. They made their home in Sisseton, SD. Dorothy and LaVerne were blessed with seven children. LaVerne passed away on October 27, 2001. Dorothy was a long-time member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton, SD. She joined the Catholic Order of Forester's and St. Francis Circle. Dorothy was active at the Sisseton Senior Center. She liked to play cards and spend time with her grandchildren. Dorothy passed away on October 14, 2010, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Deb Fonder of Norfolk, NE; Craig and wife Teresa Fonder of Wessington Springs, SD; Julie Guthrie and husband Joe of Aberdeen, SD; Kay Sprague and husband Brad, of Shawnee, KS; Allan Fonder of Sisseton, SD; Tim and wife Barb Fonder of Savage, MN; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Roger and wife Linda Fischer of Pine City, MN; four sisters, Mrs. Marlys Johnson of Rapid City, SD; Mrs. Carol Urban of Vadnais Hts., MN; Mrs. Jean Fischer of Lake Elmo, MN; and Karen and husband, Marlin German of Watertown, South Dakota,
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband LaVerne, and a brother, Michael, as well as several brother-in-laws.
