Memorial Service for Doris Sandbakken, 92, of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Vicar Pat Schubert officiating. Organist will be Ollie Yost and soloist Pat Schubert Urn Bearers will be Trevis Alberts and Jason Steffens. Honorary Urn Bearers will be all of Doris's Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to services on Monday. Inurnment will be at the Sisseton Cemetery. Sisseton, South Dakota. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Doris was born September 25, 1929 at Britton, SD to Clarence and Christine (Mork) Quarve. Doris attended Britton Public School and graduated in 1947. She worked after school and weekends for her uncle at the Quarve Drug. She was united in marriage to Robert Alberts in 1948 and they made their home in Claremont, SD. To this union four children were born Janet, Jean, Reginald and Randall. They moved to Britton in 1955. Robert passed away on December 13, 1962. Doris married Sanford Sandbakken on August 30, 1964 and they made their home in Browns Valley, MN. They owned and operated the Browns Valley Hotel until it was destroyed by fire. They moved to Sisseton where Doris and Sanford took over the family farm. Doris owned and operated the Laundromat for several years. She also managed the VFW Bar and Mode-O-Day Dress Shop before retiring to Harlingen, Texas for 40 years. They enjoyed driving, visitors and "Winter Texans" around the Harlingen area and Padre Island. They also loved playing card and dice games weekly with their "Winter Texan friends". In 2008 they returned to Sisseton. Doris and Sandy enjoyed fishing, auction sale, rummage sales and flea markets where they purchased and restored antique clocks. Doris passed away at Coteau Des Prairie Hospital at Sisseton on February 13, 2022.
Doris is survived by two daughters Janet Steffens, Shakopee, MN and Jeani (Bruce) Hammer, Sisseton, SD; one son Reginald Alberts, Sisseton, SD; step-daughter Shirley Smith; step-daughter-in-law Janine Sandbakken; three grandchildren Jason (Nancy) Steffens, Jennifer (Brent) Snell and Trevis (Laura) Alberts and eight great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Robert Alberts and Sanford Sandbakken; her son Randall Alberts; sister Betty Bolis and brother-in-law Bill Bolis; great grandson Thomas Alberts; niece Sarah Bolis; and step-sons Gary Sandbakken and Jerry Sandbakken.
