Funeral Service for Doris Jean Lawrence-Leith, 61 of Hankinson, ND will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Pastor Milton Owen, John Cloud III and all Episcopal Lay Readers officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Heminger, Wayne Heminger, Bruce Many Lightnings, James Bird, Chris Robertson and Michael Robertson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jackie Anderson, Karen Bird, Candida Heminger, Jodi Kampeska, Lily Mae Lawrence, Sylvia Owen, Tosheena Wanna, Natasha DuMarce, JC Crawford, Darrell Quinn Sr., Patrick Deutsch, Floyd Kirk, and Roberta Trevino. Interment will be at the St. Mary's Episcopal Cemetery. There will be a Wake Service on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 and All Night Wake Service Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Doris Jean (Lawrence) Leith was born on September 15, 1952 in Sisseton, SD to LaVern Sylvan and Thelma Naomi (Bird) Lawrence. She was raised by her grandmother Laura Bird and attended Peever School and Sisseton School. She received her GED from Sisseton Wahpeton College. Doris married John Roberts Leith Sr. on June 26, 1970 in Wheaton, MN. Shortly after getting married, she lived in Denver, CO. for a short period of time. Then she moved back and worked at Dakota Connection and the Bingo Hall in payroll. She also worked at the Child Protection Program as the receptionist and at Dakota Magic Casino in Soft Count before retiring in 1995 due to illness. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren, going to thrift stores, reading, movies, and being outside. She was very caring and willing to help. She always opened her home to those in need, taking in relatives needing a place to stay. Doris passed away May 25, 2014 at Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton.
Doris is survived by her children Jordan Leith (Angela Redday) of Hankinson, ND, Kendall Leith of Veblen, SD, Landon Leith of Hankinson, ND, Jonna Leith (Bruce Many Lightnings) of Veblen, SD; grandchildren Rikki Lufkins, Justice Leith, Hunter Leith, Allister Leith all of Devils Lake, ND, Richanda Hill of Hankinson, ND, Dyami Many Lightnings and Damien Mnay Lightnings of Veblen, SD; brothers Brian Lawrence of Agency Village, SD, and Marcus DuMarce of Sioux Falls, SD; Sisters Joan Mahpiyasha of Peever, SD, Marla Rafferty of Ortonville, MN, and Renee Lahm of Lincoln, NE.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Leith Sr., son John Leith (LBJ) Jr., brothers Russell Lawrence and LaVern Lawrence Jr.
