Funeral Service for Doris Marie Cooper, 67, of Summit, South Dakota will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, South Dakota with Rev. Dwight Fearing and Rev. Vern Donnell officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian, Rick, D.J., and Pat Cooper, and Dick and Larry Halbert. Honorary Pallbearers will be uncle Bud and all of Doris's relatives and friends. Special music will be by Kirk and Marnie Snaza with the drum by Brian Renville Jr. There will be an all night wake service at the Tribal Community Center on Friday, May 13, 2016 starting at 7:00 PM. Interment will be at the St. Matthews Catholic Cemetery, Veblen, South Dakota. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of the arrangements.
Doris was born on August 21, 1948 at Pierre, SD to Henry and Alvina (Donnell) Halbert. She grew up and attended school in Custer, SD, Britton, SD and St. Paul, MN. After her education Doris worked various jobs including being a candy striper at St. Johns Hospital, she was a cashier, and was also a C.N.A. at Tekakwitha Nursing Center. She also worked for several motels in the laundry department. She loved taking care of her grandchildren. She was married to Daniel Cooper at the Christian Outreach Center in Sisseton in 2002. The couple made their home in Summit, SD. Doris liked to cook and bake and she made the best potato salad. She also liked to fish and attended mudding events with her children. She also loved going to the casinos to relax, and she loved visiting and spending time with family and friends. Doris passed away on May 8, 2016 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD after a short illness.
Doris is survived by four children, D.J. Cooper of Sisseton, SD, Rick Cooper of Summit, SD, Pat Cooper of Summit, SD and Brian and Trish Cooper of Summit, SD, one sister Elaine and Ralph Parsons of Sisseton, SD, two brothers, Dick and Sue Halbert of Veblen, SD and Larry and Debbie Halbert of Browns Valley, SD, and uncle Bud Donnell of Sisseton, SD, eleven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers LeRoy and Jim.
