Funeral service for Donna Rae Thompson, 63, of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the Big Coulee District Center, Big Coulee, SD with Pastor Vern Donnell and CRE Gerald Heminger Jr. officiating. Pianist will be Billy Kohl and special music by Moonlight Aadland.  Pall bearers will be Raymond Eagle, William Langdeaux, Ethan Tiger, Jeremy Brown, Edward Kirk, and Jonathan Sargeant.  Honorary Pall bearers will be Susan Quinn, Frieda Roberts, Janet Brown, Tammy Goodwin and All of Donna's friends she's helped one way or another.  Burial will be in the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Big Coulee, SD.  There will be All night wake services on Saturday, January 7, 2023 and Sunday, January 8, 2023 starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Big Coulee District Center.  Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

When the sun rose, Wednesday morning, June 3rd, 1959. The world was blessed with the precious life of Donna Rae Quinn, to Dorothy Rose Atkinson-Heminger & Clifford John Quinn, in Sisseton, SD. She was 1 of 11 children. She loved ALL of her siblings, very deeply, her entire life-through. She would share stories of them all with her children often. Donna and her siblings were taken from their parents and ended up in the Tekakwitha Orphanage & Boarding School, in Sisseton, from a very young age. She was emancipated at 14. As Donna, was fiercely-protective of her siblings and peers and proved to be too much for the System to handle. So they released her. She was forced to learn the streets to survive. Learning her mother was deceased, she then searched to find her dad. She reconnected and it was well with her soul. Donna then became actively involved in AIM, and was a pretty radical activist for the indigenous movement. She was very proud of this. She resided along the west river area for a time before finding herself in Sioux Falls, SD. This is when she met Terry Blaine. They had 3 children together: Terry Quinn, Leon Quinn & Teddy Quinn. Within this chapter of her life, tragedy befell. An attack had left her to bury her infant, Teddy, and her sons were lost in the system and adopted out. She served her 5-years for manslaughter in self-defense, in full. Terry would later search for and find Donna as an adult, but was killed by a drunk driver before they could meet. When released, determined to move forward, she got into as many things as she could. She learned trades of every sort from taming wild horses, Martial Arts, Art, Mechanics & Cars, and Engineering to Music & Instruments. She then met Anthony "Tony" Eagle, from this relationship, they had a son: Raymond Eagle. When Tony & Donna parted ways, she and Raymond would end up living in various cities and towns to reside. They lived in Watertown, Aberdeen, Multiple communities within her reservation & Minneapolis. Donna always had a passion for and loved music. The Golden Oldies and the Blues, the sound, reminded her of her parents. She cherished her memories of them. So she loved these genres until the day she died. But she also loved Old Country and Gospel. With her love for music instilled, she found herself involved, inevitably, within the music scene. She became a musician and a singer. This is where she crossed paths with musician and singer, William "Corby" Langdeaux Sr. They would come together and create music. They sang and performed every chance they got in Professional and private settings. In time, Donna & Corby were married in Aberdeen, SD. Together, 5 Children were created: LaShannon Langdeaux, Angelina Langdeaux, Moonlight Langdeaux, Misty Langdeaux & William Corby Langdeaux Jr. They buried Angelina after being born. The family of 7 would then live in several states: Watertown & Aberdeen, SD; Fargo ND; Minneapolis & Moorhead MN; to Stanford & Geyser MT, before finally staying put in Sisseton SD. Donna & Corby's marriage mutually ended after some years of being separated. Hardship after hardship endured, in life, but Donna never gave up. She never lost faith. God always provided and made a way. Concerned about setting roots and tired of the struggle of living town to town, she was determined & dedicated to purchasing a place she could call home for her and her children. Over a long period of time, she finally paid off her home. She was content, and this also, was well with her soul. She met and married Floyd Thompson in 2004. She cared for 7 grandkids. Although it was getting more difficult for her as she got older, nevertheless, she did it until her very end. Donna loved her grandchildren dearly. Every single one of them. The Lord blessed us with her life on Earth for 63 years, 6 months and 30 days, before her final sunset. August 1st, 2022, it was discovered that she had an AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation), an abnormal connection between arteries and veins, in her brain. This is usually present at birth, which is why we consider her time on Earth -- Precious. The AVM could have ruptured at any point in her lifetime. This abnormality in her brain was being treated with Stereotactic Radiation Therapy, the following months after the discovery. It was then further discovered she had an aneurysm as well, that was weak, but the location of the aneurysm was inoperable. November 18th, 2022, sadly, her AVM had ruptured, which caused her brain to hemorrhage, and resulted in a midline brain shift. This shift caused severe brain damage. We did everything possible to keep her with us and gave her a fighting chance. She had a strong heart, and fought hard. Eventually, there was nothing that could be done. With heavy hearts, December 30th, 2022, we brought her home from the hospital, where hospice took over. She quietly slipped into the arms of our heavenly Father, Monday, January 2nd, 2023, in her home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Donna wasn't only just "Mama" to her kids, but also considered "Mama", "Aunty" and "Sister" to MANY others. Blood related or not, it didn't matter. She was a great friend and loved ALL. She loved fiercely and cared deeply. She was blunt, bold and honest, but her heart was enormous. She treated everyone she encountered as family. And to all who had the honor of knowing her -- remember her -- as she was. Always smiling and always laughing. Donna loved to, unapologetically, joke & jest. Even in the darkest hours, when it was the hardest, most, to smile.

Cherish and hold dear your memories. Remember her often.

Donna is survived by her husband, Floyd Thompson of Sisseton, SD; two sisters, Susan Quinn of Big Coulee, SD and Freida Roberts of Montana; one brother John Sargeant of Sisseton, SD; her children Leon Curtis Quinn of Oregon, Raymond John (Dezeray) Eagle Sr. of Sisseton, SD; LaShannon Jean White of Sioux Falls, SD, Moonlight Aadland of Sisseton, SD, Misty Dawn (Edward) Kirk of Peever, SD; and William Langdeaux Jr. of Browns Valley, MN; one "baby son" Ethan Tiger; Grandchildren Angelina Aadland, Adam Aadland, Eric Tiger II, Wasaka Mack, Wanbli Mack, Itancan Mack, Canku Luta Mack, Kamimila White, Wahcazi White, Percy Kirk, Persephone Kirk, Phoenix Kirk, Phoebe Kirk, Edward Kirk Jr., William Langdeaux III, Evangeline Langdeaux, Seth Langdeaux, Elizabeth Langdeaux, Lilith Langdeaux, Lucas Langdeaux, Anpa O Love Eagle, Molly Eagle, Tony Eagle, Raymond John Eagle Jr., Samuel Eagle and Phyllis Eagle.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Rose Atkinson-Heminger & Clifford John Quinn; 3 children- Teddy Quinn, Angelina Langdeaux, & Terry Quinn- Ross; 3 sisters- Phoebe Thompson, Anna Quinn, & Betty Amos;  4 brothers- Richard Atkinson, Joseph Atkinson, Willis Quinn, and Aldred Quinn; 2 grandchildren- Nevaeh & Valerie Langdeaux; 2 spouses- Anthony "Tony" Eagle & William "Corby" Langdeaux Sr.; 2 nieces- Melissa Thompson & Autumn Thompson; 3 nephews- Calvin "Smed" Amos, Daniel Amos, & David Roberts.
