Funeral Service for Donald L. Brown, 86 of Watertown, SD formerly of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. LeRoy Boender officiating. Organist will be Mona Greseth with music by the congregation. Pallbearers will be Larry Schuster, Christ Anderson, Donny Almos, Merv Anderson, Ralph Keintz. and Donnie Backman. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Donald's Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Cornelius Keintz. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Garden, Aberdeen, SD. Military Rites will be provided by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton Veterans of Foreign Wars #3342. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Donald LeRoy Brown was born on December 5, 1930 to Glen and Euince (Dokter) Brown at the Brown homestead in Drywood Lake Township. He attended school starting in 1935 at Drywood Lake Township District #2. He completed his high school education in Sisseton graduating in 1949. Donald went on to attend the Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD. He later was hired to teach at the Drywood Lake Township District #2 Country School for the school year 1949-1950. He then resumed taking classes at Northern State the summer of 1950. On December 28, 1950 he married Charlotte Oswskey in Sisseton, SD. The following summer of 1952, Donald continued to teach at the county school for one more year. On December 9, 1952 he was drafted into the Army's 101 st Airborne Division during the Korean War and assigned to guard the White House. Donald concluded his service to our country on December 9, 1954 where he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Following the service he returned to Sisseton and worked for Moen Trucking. Donald had a passion for teaching and decided to complete his college education returning to Aberdeen where he received his teaching degree from Northern State Teachers College in 1961. Upon graduation he was employed by O.M. Tiffany Elementary School. In1965 he returned to Sisseton where he and Charlotte purchased the Chefs' Café. That same year he accepted a position with the Sisseton School District where he taught at the Westside Elementary until his retirement in 1991. In 2014 Donald moved to Watertown. Donald passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, SD.
Donald is survived by his children, Ron and Marcy Brown, of Durham, NC, Cindy and John Pearson of Dublin, OH, Robert and Deb Brown of Aberdeen, SD, Arvid Brown of Watertown, SD and Michael Brown of Watertown, SD; grandchildren, Chad L. Brown and wife, Dana of Wake Forest, NC, Chris D. Brown and wife Kim of Durham, NC, Nicholas Pearson and wife Sarah of Cincinnati, OH, Matthew Pearson, of Dublin, OH, Tyler Brown and wife Rachel of Aberdeen, SD, Ashton Brown and wife Kristin of Watertown, SD, Sylvia Brown of Browns Valley, MN, and Emily Brown of Watertown, SD; great grandchildren, Dakota, Sierra and Sydney Brown, Alexander and Margaret Pearson, Avalyn and Silas Brown and Dallas Hawbecker; three sisters, Devra and Joel Stapleton of Manteca, CA, Darla and Cletus George of Sisseton SD, and Diane Lohre of Beresford, SD. .
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; parents Glen and Eunice Brown; two brothers, Gordon and Stanley; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
