Funeral Service for Dolores Catherine Currence, 92, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. LeRoy Boender officiating. Organist will be Ollie Yost and Soloist Holly Anderson. Pallbearers will be her six grandsons: Scott, Dustin, Ross, Nick, Mitch & Josh Currence. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Josie Bragg, Nicole Edberg, Angela Black, Kayla Orbeck, Ember Currence, Ashley Peterson, Kendra Currence, & "little angel" Stephanie Currence and great grandchildren: Jaden Edberg, Kade & Kyler Black, Addison Orbeck, Kasen & Kenley Currence, Jaxtin Currence, Cayden & Avery Bragg, Adelynn Currence, Owen & Andrew Currence. Interment will be in the Peever Cemetery, Peever, South Dakota. Visitation will be at Cahill Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Dolores Catherine Burg was born in Roberts County, SD near Browns Valley, MN on July 18, 1925 to Henry & Emma Burg. She was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Anothony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley, MN. She attended country school through the 8 th grade and graduated from Browns Valley High School in 1944. Dolores married Kenneth E. Currence, Sr. on September 21, 1947 in Browns Valley, MN; they made their home at a rented farmstead near Peever, SD. To this union, six children were born. They purchased Kenny's parents' (Elmer & Maude Currence) farmstead in 1963.
Dolores spent her days working in their home and caring for her family. She loved to play cards, go to rummage sales, and spoil her grandchildren. In 1988, they sold the farm to their youngest son and moved to Sisseton. Dolores and Kenny also spent their winters in Harlingen, TX for many years. Kenny passed away in August, 2007 and Dolores moved into Edgewood Assisted Living in March, 2008, where she quickly became the Saturday bowling champion! Dolores moved into Tekakwitha Living Center in August, 2017 where she resided until her peaceful passing on Friday, December 1, 2017.
Dolores is survived by four sons: Donald of Wilmot, SD; Michael (Diane), Kenneth R. Jr. (Carol), and Jeffrey (Amy) all of Sisseton; a daughter Marilyn (Mark) Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN and one daughter-in-law Julie Currence of Watertown, SD; 13 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Isabelle Cox of Sacramento, CA; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Carmyn Halseide of Sisseton, SD and many nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Sr.; a son, Jerome Currence; a granddaughter, Stephanie Currence; her parents Henry & Emma Burg; a brother, Kenneth Burg; and sisters, Lorraine Burg, Lucille Beier, and Imogene Werth.
