Funeral services for Denise "Penny" Marie Bucklin will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel in Sisseton, SD with the Rev. William Schruba officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Jonathan Greve, Jocelyn Bucklin, Nathan Bucklin, Riley Bucklin, Ava Hurrell, Isabell Hurrell, and Natalie Hurrell. There will be visitation on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral chapel. Penny was born October 3, 1959 in Sisseton, SD to Clinton and Bonnie (Aadland) Birdsall. She lived in Sisseton before moving to Watertown and then Sturgis, SD. She grew up with one sister, Judy Richards and two brothers Ric and Randy Birdsall. Penny met her husband Daryl Bucklin through her Sister-in-law Deb Birdsall while he was home from boot camp in 1973 while serving in the Navy. They started writing each other and fell in love. Daryl was discharged and moved to Piedmont, SD to be with Penny. They were married the following year on July 30, 1977. They lived in BlackHawk, SD for a short time before moving to Peever, SD. Over the next several years they lived in the Sisseton area until moving to Washington in 1984. They moved back to Peever, SD in 1991 where they lived until moving to Watertown in 2012. Penny had many jobs mostly involved in customer service. She worked at Alco in Sisseton for over 10 years before retiring in 2007 due to her arthritis. Penny loved doing all sorts of crafts, such as sewing, crocheting, and beading. She has made many blankets and projects for her family and friends with love in every stitch. In her spare time she liked to watch cartoons, read books and listen to music. Penny also liked to play games do crosswords and collect bears. She enjoyed being outside in the sun and grilling but mostly she just loved spending time with her family and spoiling her 7 Grandchildren. Penny was an amazing and kind soul full of laughter and silliness. She was loved by everyone she met and will be missed dearly. She passed away on July 15, 2013 at a hospital in Minneapolis, MN.
Penny is survived by her husband Daryl of Watertown, SD, three children; Jeremiah and Jamie Bucklin of South shore, SD, Sarah Bucklin and Trinity Hurrell of Watertown, SD, and Josh Bucklin and Taylor Hagen of Watertown, SD, her mother Bonnie Schuppan of Sisseton, SD, one sister, Judy and Ronald Richards of Sisseton, SD, two brothers, Richard and Deb Birdsall of Watson, MN and Randy Birdsall of New Effington, SD, and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, and her step-father Carl Schuppan.
