Funeral Service For Delores Lorraine Medenwald, 87 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 10:30 AM at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD, with Rev. Patrick Jenkins officiating. Organist will be Michelle Greseth and duet by Pat Schubert and Julie Medenwald. Pallbearers will be Dustin Medenwald, Trevor Medenwald, Tyler Medenwald, Ethan Medenwald, Josh Currence and Matt Peterson. Honorary Pallbearers will be "Her Boys" Brian Steen, Terry Deutsch, Rydell Nieland, Dave Helgeson, Dale Oletzke, Arlen Thompson, Colbey Lehrke, Frank Hoss, Cory Kranhold, Fort Sisseton VFW Auxiliary #3342 and Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Auxiliary #50. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Visitation will be held at the Cahill Funeral Chapel on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., family present from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 5:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Delores Lorraine Schulz, the youngest of 5 children, was born in Red Iron Lake Township near Lake City on April 8, 1932 to Herman and Mary (Stock) Schulz. She was baptized into the Lutheran Faith. She attended school at Red Iron #2 (Stock School) and attended Sisseton High School until her dad passed away, when she dropped out of school to work and help support the family. She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Sisseton. Delores married Darrell Medenwald on September 13, 1953. When Darrell returned from Korea, they made their home near New Effington, SD until they purchased their farm in Grant Township northeast of Sisseton in 1962. To this union four children were born. Delores worked alongside Darrell milking cows and in the field, along with raising chickens, gardening, canning, etc. She also worked as a school cook in Sisseton for several years. Delores & Darrell were members of the Corner Squares Square Dance Club. Delores was an avid gardener; her favorites being vegetables, raspberries & strawberries, along with all kinds of outdoor flowers and she had a real "green thumb" with African Violets. Delores was a true people person; family was very important to her (and by family you didn't need to be related by blood); she was proud of her Red Iron Lake roots and her Grant Township & Jamie Circle neighbors. Delores enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and anyone else she knew. You would never leave her house hungry, and she never went anywhere without a dish in her hand to share. Some of her specialties were chocolate chip cookies, raspberry kuchen, raspberry & strawberry jam and pies of all kinds. Numerous people in the community were lucky recipients of her homemade pie and cookies. Delores was a busy volunteer. Over the years, she donated many gallons of blood as she was a Universal Donor. She was active with her church, senior citizens, VFW and Legion Auxiliaries. After Darrell passed away in 2003, she was a regular volunteer at Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton Chamber of Commerce, Monday Quilters at Grace, and was the chief coffee maker at Grace Lutheran Church. Delores was a mom and grandma to many; she loved a good water fight, was known to occasionally dance on the table, enjoyed her ice cream cups, ice cold Coke, hot fresh coffee and loved to brag about her "boys". For over a year, her most commonly used motto was "85 feeling alive, 86 up to tricks, 87 I'm going to heaven." Delores passed away peacefully on January 2, 2020 at the age of 87 years.

Delores is survived by her four children, David (Linda) Medenwald of Sioux Falls, SD, Julie Medenwald of Sisseton, SD, Kevin (Michele) Medenwald of Sisseton, SD, and Amy (Jeff) Currence of Sisseton, SD; one sister, Betty Adolphsen of Aberdeen, SD; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-laws, LaVonne and Bill McCleerey of Sisseton, SD and Dale and Joanne Medenwald of New Effington, SD.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Darrell, two brothers, George (Margaret) Schulz, Leonard (Maxine) Schulz, one sister Elizabeth (Elmer) Palm and Brothers-in-law Del Adolpsen and Duane (Evelyn) Medenwald.
