Obituary

Funeral Service for Delbert Henry Hopkins Sr., 59, of Waubay, South Dakota will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at St. James Episcopal Church, Enemy Swim, South Dakota with Rev. Charles Chan, Rev Les Campbell, Rev. Wilbert Robertson and Rev. Conrad Cecil officiating. Enemy Swim Drum Group. Pallbearers will be Joel Biddell, Domonic BearHill, J.J. Frank, Jordan Biddell, Phillip Smith, Jake Bellonger, Jason Biddell, Johnson Hopkins, Rudy Bellonger, Garrett Keoke, Douglas Rencountre, Cameron Frank, Glen Anderson, Christopher Thennis, Kevin LaFontaine and Ray Rouillard. Honorary Pallbearers will be All of Delbert's Friends. Interment will be in the St. James Episcopal Cemetery, Enemy Swim, South Dakota. There will be all night wakes starting at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 16, 2011 and Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Enemy Swim Community Center. Delbert was born on April 17, 1952 at Sisseton, SD to Solon and Beulah (Johnson) Hopkins. Delbert attended school at Enemy Swim, Waubay, and Flandreau graduating in 1971. Delbert lived his entire life at Enemy Swim until his death. He was married to Sharen Rencountre. He loved spending time with family, friends, fishing and helping the community in the St James Church area. He was a member of St James Episcopal Church, Brotherhood of St. Andrew's and BCU. Delbert died at his home on October 15, 2011.
Delbert is survived by six children Larissa Rencountre of South Shore, SD, Delbert (Ruth) Hopkins Jr. of Sisseton, SD, Solon Rencountre of Waubay, SD, Margaret Hopkins of Enemy Swim, SD, Levi (Rachel) Hopkins of Summit, SD, and Jesse Hopkins of Enemy Swim, SD: nineteen grandchildren; significant other Connie Thennis of Enemy Swim; two sisters Beatrice (Don) Christopherson of Sisseton, SD and Estelle Hopkins of Enemy Swim, SD and four brothers Paul Smith and Sherman Hopkins of Lawrence, Kansas, Robert and Marcell Hopkins of Enemy Swim, SD. , his wife, Sharen Hopkins of Enemy Swim; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Roberta Hopkins and one brother infancy.
