Funeral Mass for Debra May "Debbie" Peterson, 67, of Brookings, SD (formerly of Veblen, SD) will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church in Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Gregg Frankman, Celebrate. Special music by the Family. Pallbearers are Hunter Mitchell, Kayden Peterson, Alex Wanna, Joseph Simmons, Levi Skogen, and Bennett Oneroad. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Debbie's grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. A Wake Service will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at St Kateri's Tekakwitha Hall in Sisseton, SD, from 5:00 P.M. till 9:00 P.M. Interment will be at a later date at the St. Matthew's Catholic Cemetery, Veblen, South Dakota. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Debra was born on July 23, 1953 at Sisseton, SD to Oliver and Angeline (Supangi) Wanna. She received her GED from South High, Minneapolis, MN. She met Joseph Darrell Peterson "Joe" at a family gathering where she fell deeply in love with him and they were united in marriage on July 9, 1976. She lived in Minneapolis before moving to Veblen, SD where she and Joe resided for 44 years. After her husband Joe passing in May 26, 2019 she moved to Brookings, SD to be close to her daughter. She worked various jobs but the one she enjoyed the most was Dakota Magic Casino as a head waitress. She loved going to the Casino's in her free time to gamble and visit family and friends, she enjoyed cooking and baking. She also loved watching the cooking shows and the golden girls to past time. Before health issues she enjoyed going to the Lakes having cook outs and fishing. Debra passed away on January 9, 2022 at Sanford Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD surrounded by family.

Debbie is survived by her children and their families, daughter; Marita Wanna and her children; Mercedes (Anthony) and Savion of Dallas, TX; and Tanya (Craig) Mitchell and their children; Steven, Hailey and Hunter of Brookings, SD; Son, Joe (Stephanie) Peterson and their children Kayden and Nataya Peterson of Veblen, SD and their mother, Cheryl Ragsdale ;Selena (Levi) Skogen and their son Derrick, Jasmine White of Sisseton, SD; two brothers Duane "Doc" Wanna of Sisseton, SD. sister, Anita Kay Wanna of Sisseton, SD.; Oliver "Mugzy" Wanna Jr. of Wilmot, SD
