Funeral Service for Dean LaVern Thompson, 90 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, S.D. with the Rev. Joshua Knudsen officiating.  Organist will be Ember Dady and Soloist will be Sean Lehrke. Pallbearers will be Kyle Thompson, Terry Rolstad, John Jacobson, Mark Peterson, Matt Peterson and Gary Hensel.  Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Dean's Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery in the spring.  Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342.  There will be visitation on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 3:30 P.M to 6:00 P.M.  and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Dean was born November 19 in 1932 to Harry (Sr.) and Elta (Ady) Thompson on the farm. He was baptized in Flandreau, South Dakota. Dean graduated from Sisseton High School in 1950 and enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard as part of the 196 ^th Regimental Combat Team; he was later stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. He returned home to the farm and farmed alongside his family until his passing. Dean married Hilma Rolstad on June 5, 1954, in Sisseton. They were blessed with six children – David, Iris, Calvin, Rodney, Joan and Gene.

Dean was a devoted husband and a proud father, and he is remembered for his incredible work ethic on the farm. During his life, he loved to fish with his sons and grandchildren and play games including whist and cribbage. Despite the daily demands of farm life, Dean always made time to show his grandkids the fun side of farming by showing them the baby calves when visiting the farm. Dean served as supervisor for Grant Township and was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sisseton. Dean Lavern Thompson, 90, of Sisseton, South Dakota, passed away at home on Thursday, February 23, 2023.

Dean will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his six children: David Thompson of Sisseton, S.D.; Iris (James) Rydell of Vermillion, S.D.; Calvin (Candace) Thompson of Sisseton, S.D.; Rodney (Shellie) Thompson of Watertown, S.D.; Joan (Daniel) Morrow of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Gene Thompson of Sioux Falls, S.D; as well as 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Hilma Thompson; his parents, Harry (Sr.) and Elta Thompson; and his brother, Harry (Jr.) Thompson.
