David Lowell Syverson was born on January 17th, 1944, to Julius and Hazel ( Anonson ) Syverson in Sisseton SD. He grew up on the family farm near Claire City SD. He was the youngest of their four children. David attended school in a one room schoolhouse one mile west of the family farm. He had many stories about what that was like. When he turned 18, he joined the National Guards and served for 6 years. On November 16th, 1968, he married Carol Niles and they celebrated 57 years together. Together they had three children, Laurie, Tim, and Kelly. They lived on the family farm until 1997 when they moved to Sisseton SD. David farmed in his early years then started driving truck for Dahl Trucking and then Lake Valley Trucking. After he left trucking, he worked for Haggerty Construction. In 1983 he started working at the Roberts County Highway Department. He remained working there until his retirement in 2009. David was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. There was not a hunting season he missed. He also loved to trap shoot and was a member of the Roberts County Sportsmen's Club for many years. David loved teaching how to hunt and how to be safe while doing it to any child that had interest in hunting. He taught the Hunter Safety Course for 35 years. David was an amazing storyteller. Anyone who knew him would agree. He could keep you entranced into the story he was telling and kept everyone waiting to see how the story would end, usually ending up with everyone laughing. Another thing about David was that he absolutely adored his grandchildren. That big smile of his was always on when his grandchildren were around. David attended the Assembly of God Church where he was a Deacon. He also attended the Christian Outreach Center and the Bible Fellowship Community Church.
