Funeral Service for David Running Hawk, Wambdi Tokaheya, "Eagle That Comes First", 52, Sisseton, SD will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Fr. Charles Chan officiating. Drum Group will be Noisy Bear. Military Rites are being performed by the Kit Fox Society.   Pallbearers will be Clayton Ellingson Jr., Bud White, Randy Jordan, Ken Bradford, Don Bradford and Scott Kreisher.   Honorary Pallbearers will be Dana Knight, Alyssia Knight, Mariah DuMarce, Garrett Running Hawk, Nick Running Hawk, Orvella Bird, Richard Huff, Mark Shindelbower, Jr. Kirk, Dustin Kirk, Kenny Kirk, Roland Heminger, Arlen Kern, Wayne German Jr., Mark Thompson, and Ronnie Cleveland. Wake Service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 8:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD. Interment will be in the Keeble Family Cemetery, Grenville, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

David James Running Hawk was born in Fort Yates, North Dakota on January 10, 1967 to Margaret and James Running Hawk. He attended school in Sisseton, Wilmot, and graduated in 1985 from St. Michael-Albertville High School in Minnesota. Upon completion of high school, David enlisted in the Marine Reserve from June, 10, 1987 to 1993. While David was serving in the Reserves, he attended Winona State University in Minnesota where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1989. David was currently employed at the Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center in Sisseton, SD. David loved to spend time with his wife Dianna and his children. David loved watching sports, listening to music, and playing video games. He also liked attending games and concerts whenever he was able to. David was an avid Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Wild and Minnesota Gophers fan. David journeyed into the spirit world on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. David will be sadly missed by all who knew him and is loved by many.

David is survived by his wife Dianna Running Hawk; his sons Blake, Preston, Hunter and Kendryck; his daughters Lakota and McKaya; his mother Margaret Bourelle; his sister Isabel; his brothers Kenneth, Murray and Gerald; many nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his father James Running Hawk; his brother Brian Bourelle; and son Kaysen Running Hawk.
