Obituary

Visitation for David Brian Genia, Sr., 71 of Peever, South Dakota will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel with John Cloud III officiating. Burial will follow at the Genia Family Cemetery, David Genia Sr. Residence. Following the burial, a meal will be served at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Rotunda. The Drum Group will be Long Hollow. The Pallbearers will be Mike Goette, Adam Genia, Jamaal Lufkins, Ray Lufkins, Henry Lufkins, and Derek Redwing. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Juliette Brant, Saffire Wolfe, Lakaya Wolfe, Honesty Wolfe, Naomi Graham, Stanley Thorpe, Maycee Crawford, Jenny Crawford, Anthony Genia,Tina Hartwig, Kendra Cook, Solara Lufkins, Thomas Lufkins,  Micah Lufkins,  Amanda Lufkins. Dr. Francine Mousseau, Jessie Moen, and Kayla Hawkins. Military Rites by Kit Fox Society. Interment will be in the Genia Family Cemetery, Peever SD, with Military Rites by the Kit Fox Society. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

David Brian Genia Sr. was born to Howard and Pansy (Cloud) Genia, Sr. on January 23, 1954, in Sisseton, SD. During his younger years, David lived in Long Island, NY where he attended grade school and high school. He then attended college in Arizona. David then served in the Army from April of 1971 to April of 1974. During his time of service, he was stationed in Fort Dix in New Jersey and Germany. He received the National defense Service Medal, Marksman, M-16, M-60 Medals. Following the service David received his EMT license and structural engineer license. in Arizonia. David was united in marriage to LuJuann Firecloud, and later to Philmore (Bonnie) Eagle. He worked as an EMT and was employed getting the Dakota Western Bag Factory started, later he worked at building the Dakota Magic Caino and as general manager. He was Presbyterian and held the believe throughout his life. He enjoyed reading, spending time with his grandchildren, cooking his homemade lasagna which was the best. Going on long drives to enjoy the outdoors and sightseeing. He liked to watch old movies, westerns and keeping up with current news and weather. David passed away at his home on April 22,2025. He was cared for by his daughter Sara, sister Mary and niece Amanda.

David is survived by his children, Erin Genia of Northberwick, Maine, Heather Genia of Olympia, WA, David Genia Jr. of Poplar, MT, Sara Genia-Hisgun of Peever,  SD, and Thomasina Knight of Sisseton, SD; three brothers James (Kathy) Genia Sr., of Veblen, SD, Melvin (Gay) Genia of Veblen, SD, Michael (Sherry) Genia of Agency Village, SD; two sister, Judith Hicks of Sparks, NV and Mary (Mike) Goette of Browns Valley, MN; numerous grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Genia; his parents, Howard and Pansy (Cloud) Genia Sr; three brothers Howard, Mark and Joe; two  sisters Nancy  Wallenstein and Peggy Lopez.
