David Lee Christianson was born August 6, 1946, in Sisseton, SD to Clayton and Elsie (Johnson) Christianson. He grew up in Sisseton, SD after he finished his military obligation in the late 1960s with an honorable discharge from the Army National Guard. David took a job cutting meat at Stavig Brother's Grocery, where he met his wife, Paulette Ceroll. He made a career of meat cutting. David and Paulette were united in marriage on September 23, 1967, and they moved to Bloomington, MN. They started their family with a son, Gayle, and daughter, Leslie. David always had the urge to come back to Sisseton to hunt geese and catching walleyes, which was his greatest passion. He helped organize locker plants from Milbank, SD to Oaks, ND, but mostly enjoyed working with Steve Pallesen at Horton's. Retiring at the age of 63 he could pursue his passion of fishing for walleyes with his wife. No matter which lake, he could always find fish. He spent a few years tournament fishing with his best friend, Mark Marohl, winning first place during a tournament on Big Stone Lake. David spent his leisure time fishing with grandkids, with plenty of snacks along, which was one of his greatest joys, aside from frying the catch for them. He enjoyed volunteering at Grace Lutheran Church and serving on the property management committee, he was also a member of the American Legion. David was forced to give up fishing, coffee and Jems, and his church "gang," when his battle with cancer progressed.
David is survived by his wife Paulette of 56 years, children Gayle (Holly) Christianson of Piedmont, SD, Leslie Chaloupka, Wilmot, SD; five grandchildren Riley Christianson, Piedmont, SD, Carley (Jacob) Lagsdin of Rapid City, SD, Glory Christianson of Piedmont, SD, Katlyn (Jake) Chaloupka of Sisseton, SD, Kyrin (Tina) Chaloupka; one great grandson Ace Chaloupka; one step great granddaughter Karmin; two brothers, Gerald Christianson of Lakeville, MN and Delano (Colleen) Christianson of Sauk Centre, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Elise and Clayton, brothers Curtis and Jamie, sister-in-law Elaine, son-in-law Dan, and niece Lyn.
