Obituary

Funeral Service for Daryl E. Hormann, 78 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Jeff Kalb officiating. Organist will be Clarice Arbach. Pallbearers will be Richard Hormann, David Hormann, Blake Ceroll, Gene Gaikowski, Brian Clark, and Bradley Oland. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Daryl's grandchildren and staff of Tekakwitha Living Center. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 9:00 AM to noon at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church. Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Daryl was born on August 20, 1930 in Aberdeen, SD to Fred and Faye (Wilson) Hormann. He grew up and attended school in Aberdeen, SD and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1947. Following his education, Daryl entered the United States Army on December 7, 1948 retiring as a MSGT on April 1, 1969. He received the Purple Heart with one oak leaf cluster for wounds he received on September 3, 1950 and November 10, 1950. He was also awarded the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 6th award, UN Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). While serving in the military Daryl was united in marriage to Doris Lotz on May 15, 1953 at Sisseton, SD. Daryl was stationed in various countries during his tour of duty. After retiring from the Army, they moved to Sisseton, SD and Daryl worked at Kromer Standard Station, BIA Roads. He worked for the Sisseton Housing Authority and Redevelopment Commission for the City of Sisseton until complications with his health caused Daryl to retire. He liked to hunt, fish, and bowl and was a longtime president of Sisseton Bowling Association. Daryl was a life member of the Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342 and Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50. Daryl passed away on May 21, 2009 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD.
Daryl is survived by his wife, Doris Hormann of Watertown, SD; five children, David (Marilyn) Hormann of Watertown, SD, Nancy (Gene) Gaikowski of Webster, SD, Richard (Barbara) Hormann of Aransas Pass, TX, Cheryl (Rory) Ceroll of Hankinson, ND, Christine Hormann of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Jean Eide of Escondido, CA and Donna Nigg of Helena, MT; one brother Donald (Betty) Hormann of Monrovia, CA; twelve grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-in-law, James Nigg and Roy Eide.
