Funeral Service for Darwin G. Anderson, 97, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at the Family Life Assembly of God Church, Sisseton, SD, with Paul Haakenson and Don Smith officiating. Pianist will be Dixie Miller with special music by Betty Knutson and Joyce Wermers. Pallbearers will be Christ Anderson, Josh Anderson, Matt Anderson, Lyle Carl, Curtis Dahl, and Kevin Larsen. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Darwin's Relatives & Friends.  Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD, with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be a visitation on Monday, August 7, 2017, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and on Tuesday, one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD, is in charge of Funeral arrangement.

Darwin was born August 3, 1920, at the Powell Hospital, Sisseton, SD, to Adolph and Elvira (Peterson) Anderson. He grew up and attended school in the Eden/Buffalo Lake area. He was drafted into the Army Air Corps in September of 1942, and served our country (WWII) until January of 1946. While serving his country Darwin received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Darwin met his future wife (E. Marie Post) in Atlantic City, NJ, on a week-end pass while in the service. They were married in PA on December 2, 1947, and made their home on the north shore of South Buffalo Lake where they raised turkeys, sheep and cattle on their farm. Darwin was also a carpenter, and built kitchen cabinets as well as other things for people near and far. Following Darwin's second stroke and a time at the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND, he came to reside at the Tekakwitha Living Center in August of 2009 until his passing on August 4, 2017.

Darwin is survived by his wife of 69.5 years, E Marie (Post); two daughters, Colleen (Darryl) Siegel of Lancaster, SC and Ingrid (Gary) Lane of Jamestown, ND; five grandchildren, Alisa, Darren (Maria) and Amber Siegel and Christopher and Patrick (Rachel) Lane; three great grandchildren, Jesse, Urban and Vienna; a brother Harry and a sister Beverly (Clinton) Young; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arnold; five sisters, Beatrice, Genevieve, Darlene, Marjorie and Mildred; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in law; as well as three nieces.
