Funeral Service for Darryl V. Rousseau, 86, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. at 10:00 A.M. at St. Kateri Tekawitha Church, Sisseton, SD. Officiating will be Fr. Ken Lulf and Pastor Morgan Redday. Drum Group will be Old Agency Singers.   Military Rites provided by American Legion Post #314. Pallbearers will Dwaine Chapel, Clinton Chapel, Ryne Chapel, Elias Monen, Edward Rousseau, Sr., Garryl Rousseau, Jr., Micheal P. Rousseau Jr., Dustin Barse Sr., Clinton Rousseau Sr., and Edward Rousseau, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Darryl's Grandsons Roland Schoenrock, Isaiah Rousseau, Wayne Rousseau, and Christopher Rousseau and Great Grandsons; Granddaughters Della DeSheppher Monen, Amanda Rousseau, Shantal Flute, Violet Barse, Jillian Rousseau, Ashley Weddell, Jerrilyn Wolfe, JoDawn Philbrek, Courtney Heminger and Aerith Rousseau; Special Nephews Justin Krueger, Elwood Greybuffalo, Terry Rousseau, and Heath Rousseau; Special Nieces Ella Mae Greybuffalo, Rhonda Sederberg, Darla Halvorson, Mary Kirkeby, Kelly Baumgardner, Kim Kudron, Cassie Baker, Kenna Laplant and Heather Maxwell. Wake Service will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at St. Kateria Tekawitha starting at 7:00 P.M. Interment will be at the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Veterans Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of the arrangements.

Darryl V. Rousseau, 86, journeyed to the spirit world on April 11, 2025 at the Coteau hospital in Sisseton, SD. He was born on June 11, 1938 in Eagle Butte, SD, the son of Dorothy Hill Rousseau and Narcisse Rousseau, He was a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.

He attended St. Joseph's Indian School through his elementary years. He then attended high school in Timber Lake but did not graduate. He later acquired a GED from the SWC and attended course work to become an Addictions Counselor.

Darryl honorably served his country in the US army branch of service and spent most of his army career in Germany. After his discharge in December of 1963, he returned to Sioux Falls where he enrolled in mechanic school. He met and married his wife, Lorraine Greybuffalo in November of 1966. After graduating from Mechanic school he worked for a manufacturing company until the family moved to Oakland, California where he attended and graduated from a welding school. The couple and family moved to several locations through out their marriage, St. Paul, Mn., Benett, Nebraska, Moses Lake, Washington and finally made their move to Sisseton, SD and later up to Whitestone Lake in the fall of 1992.During a lot of those years, he worked as a welder.  He loved living at Whitestone Lake, and he thoroughly enjoyed gardening every spring. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he worked many hours at making our yard a place where they could enjoy their time up here with their grandparents. One of the children called it "Grandpa's playground". He also spent a lot of time designing and making jewelry and watching old western movies. His favorite football team was the Vikings and very seldom missed a game when they were playing.

The family moved to the Sisseton area in 1981 and Darryl became a bus driver for the Sisseton School District. He called the kids who rode his bus for several years, his "bus children". He was actively in involved in AA and sobriety activities which led to him becoming an Alcohol/ Addictions Counselor.  He worked at Dakota Pride, Cheyenne River Alcohol Program, an alcohol program in Aberdeen and finally as an Addictions Counselor for the Child Protection Program where he worked until he retired.

He is survived by his loving family; wife, Lorraine, daughter, Brenda, sons, Rodney, Garryl Rousseau, Sr., James Rousseau and Jesse Rousseau, all of Sisseton, SD, one brother, Gary( Tudee) Rousseau, four sisters, Maxine Schwahn of Omaha, Nebraska, Deatta Chapel of Spearfish, SD, Gloria Rousseau and Kay Koch of Lincoln, Neb., many grandchildren, great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Grandmother Emily Thompson, Grandpa Tom, his parents, Dorothy Rousseau, and Narcisse Rousseau, a brother, Wayne Thompson, two sons, Dustin Kyle Rousseau and Michael Paul Rousseau Sr., and niece, Kayce Rousseau .

He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
