Funeral Service Darlene Renville-Pipeboy, "Chekpawin" Twin Girl, 81, of Peever, SD will be held on December 12, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Old Agency District Center in Agency Village, South Dakota. Officiating will be Jesse Larson. Drum Group will be Wahpe Kute. Pallbearers will be Colin James, Tom Bartunek, Brian Bartunek, Harvey Quinn, Francis Eastman and Jeremiah Renville. Honorary Pallbearers will Dorothea W., Bernice & Jim G., Mary W-T., Virginia M., Barb R., Laura K., Evelyn T., Rose M., Carrie T., Carole S-E., Phyllis Q., Diane P., Robin R., Cindy B., Phyllis Cole-Dai, Walley J., Colleen D., Louann P., Mike P., John R., Kevin G., Russell E-B., Andy L., Ben R., Joe C-H., Brandon B., Carl K., Kyoko, Mary C., Leelan L., Sylos B., Pita W., Lisa Y., all of her Sundance family and many more family and friends.

There will be an all-night wake services on Friday and Saturday, December 10 and 11, 2021 starting at 7:00 P.M. at Old Agency District Center in Agency Village, SD. Interment will be in the Renville Family Cemetery, Agency Village, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Darlene was born on September 22, 1940 in Sisseton, SD to Lavina Max and John Renville Sr. She grew up around Peever. Later Darlene joined the Relocation program and traveled to California where she became a mentor for her culture. She found a passion for her heritage, culture and the spirit. While in California she met Willard Pipeboy and were together for many years. Darlene moved back to the Sisseton area and started being an activist for many things. As she told her kids," Speak up if it's not right!" And she lived by that, helping to make things right. Darlene was an AIM Activist, the founder of the Koda Foundation, a founder of the Traditional Government Office of the SWST. Darlene was passionate about many things, she help fight for land rights, human rights, water and animal rights. She was a teacher at Tiospa Zina Tribal School and the Sisseton Wahpeton Community College where she taught many different Dakota classes and shared the Dakota history, language and culture. Darlene was a true historian and teacher of her culture. Darlene was also a Counselor for many women. She was very spiritual her whole life. Loved researching many things, enjoyed nature and all of the creator's creations. Darlene was a busy woman but still took time to enjoy reading, pow wows and sundance ceremonies and visiting with family and friends. Darlene made her journey to the spirit world on December 8 ^th , 2021 at her home with family by her side.

Darlene is survived by her sons, Hoksila (Holly Waditaka) Pipeboy of Peever, SD, John "Bird" (Chassidy Big Horn) Renville III of Agency Village, SD, Colin (Cyndi Mecas-James) James of Dakota Tipi, Jeremiah (Sara) Renville, Ashley Waditaka of Canada , Lenda Taleb of Paris, France; her grand children Hoksina Pipeboy-Waditaka, Shanelle Sewap-Waditaka, Scarlett Renville, Cade Renville, Slaine Renville, Willa Renville, Saafire Lafrombies, Skye Renville, Tayahmya Renville and many more grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Darlene was preceded in death by parents, Lavina (Max) and John Renville, Sr.; Sister, Ida Mae LaBatte; Brothers Rollin Ryan, John Renville Jr., Darrell (Toad) Renville
