Memorial service for Darlene Belle Jones, 92, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton, SD, with Rev. Fr. Jerry Ranek officiating. Organist will be Cindy Marohl and song leader will be Sandi Jaspers. Honorary Pallbearers will be all fellow residents of Edgewood Vista Living Center. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Darlene was born on June 26, 1927 at Faith, SD to George Odell and Loretta Pearl (Richards) King. She grew up and attended school graduating from Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD in 1948. She was in the last graduating class of WWII Army Cadet Nursing Corp. On September 14, 1948 she was married to Max Fischer in Aberdeen, SD. The couple had eleven children. Darlene devoted her adult life to her nursing career. She served as an RN for the US Public Health service in Ft. Yates, ND, and Sisseton, SD. She also served in civilian hospitals in Aberdeen, SD, Faulkton, SD, Phoenix, AZ, and Corpus Christi, TX. Her favorite duty was caring for mothers to be and in delivering their babies. Darlene and Max divorced in 1968 and she moved to Black Canyon City, AZ. She met and married Stacy Jones in 1978. They ultimately made their home in Corpus Christi, TX. Stacy passed away and Darlene continued to live in Texas until 2005 when her health failed and she returned to Sisseton, SD. She was then able to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Darlene was an avid reader, artist, and an animal lover. She had a quick wit and never feared to speak her mind. She also enjoyed friendly competition, especially with her bowling buddies at Edgewood Assisted Living.

Darlene is survived by her children, Pamela and Richard Tockert of LaPorte, IN, Sandra and Andrew Hamilton of Rapid City, SD, Debra and David Valnes of Eden, SD, Craig and Patricia Fischer of Rapid City, SD, Bonnie and Thomas Pederson of Alexandria, MN, Terry and Karen Fischer of Fargo, ND, Don Fischer, Ronald Fischer, and Mark and Susan Fischer all of Sisseton, SD, twenty-three grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, Peggy and Rhonda, one brother, and one sister.
