Funeral Service for Darla Rae Recountre, 28, of Webster, SD, will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ft. Thompson, South Dakota with Fr. Conrad Ciesel and Deacon Bitsey Ciesel, St. James Episcopal Lay Readers, and Deacon Steve Mclaughlin officiating. Pall Bearers will be Rusty Locke, Silas Shepherd, Andy Grey III, Baby Geri Locke, Joseph Deane III, Cruz Lucero, Micheal Iyarpeya, Jeris Iyarpeya, Jerry Locke Jr., and Josh Rencountre. Honorary Pallbearers will be Maria Iyarpeya, Grace Iyarpeya, Micheal Ann RoundHead, De'lle Cleveland, Terry Marchuk, Margaret Hopkins, Serina Huwe, Solon Rencountre, Nakita Zambrano, Cherri Owen, Meelah LaCoix, Doug Rencountre III, Ryan Rencountre, William "Willie" Locke, Liza Iyarpeya, Burley Feather, Richard Deane, Brett Rencountre, Spirit Feather, and all of Darla's family and friends. There will be an All-Night Wake services on Thursday, September 4, 2025 starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Enemy Swim Gym, Enemy Swim, SD and All Night Wake on Friday, September 5, 2025 starting at 7:00 P.M. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ft. Thompson, SD. Interment will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Stephan, SD. Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Darla Rae Rencountre was born on May 2, 1997, in Minot, ND to Leroy Rencountre and Naticia Hale Feather. She was baptized in the Catholic church and attended school in New Town, ND. Darla worked at Walmart and had many hobbies outside of work. She loved to fish, play basketball, go on walks, watch movies/shows based on true stories, take selfies, and play on her phone. Darla had a big heart and loved being with her family and spending time with all the babies. She enjoyed family cookouts, cooking for her family (she made damn good frybread), the Bronco's, listening to all kinds of music, scary movies, and always had a joke to make. Darla loved her mom, nieces, nephews, grandchildren – her entire family. She especially had respect for her grandmother. Darla passed away on September 1, 2025, at her home in Webster, SD.
Darla is survived by her parents Leroy Rencountre and Naticia Feather; brothers Burley Feather, Armando Ayala, and Francisco Ayala; sisters Alma Arellano, Esperanza Arellano, and Rylee Deane; aunts Rhonda Rencountre, Sharen Rencountre, Carole Rencountre, Bonnie Rencountre, Jodie Rencountre, Evie Rencountre, Eileen Johnson, and Nina Johnson; uncles Douglas "Tubbs" Rencountre Jr., Robert Rencountre, and Gayle Rencountre; cousins Maria Iyarpeya, Micheal Iyarpeya, Jeris Iyarpeya, Rusty Locke, Willie Locke, Geri Locke, Jerry Locke Jr., Della and Joseph Deane, Michelle Hale, Joseph and Richard Deane; special friend Andrew Grey III; friend Caleb LaMaster; special grandson "Handsome grandson" Louis LaCroix Jr.; nephews Tristan and Ethan Locke Seaboy, Maricio Longie, Santana Hale, and Adonis Arellano; nieces Luna Rae Arellano, Amarah Locke Seaboy, Azrah Locke Seaboy, and Loretta Longie; much cousins, nieces, nephews, and godmother Lynette Reed.
Darla is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Douglas and Esther Rencountre Sr.; grandma Stella Pretty Sounding Flute; great Grandpa Burley Grimell; uncles Robin Rencountre, Larry Rencountre, "Snee" Jerry Charger; cousins Alyssa Locke, Micheal Rencountre, Nathaniel Long, and Jesse Rondell; stepdad Pete Feather and stepsister Abbey Steele.
