Daniel was born on August 13, 1922 to Adolph and Emma (Hopp) Rinas on the family farm in Goodwill Township. He attended Goodwill #2 West Country school all eight grades. He became a self-educated man in many different fields. He farmed all his life in Goodwill Township. Dan enjoyed family gatherings, visiting with friends, good music, old time threshing bees, and many hobbies. He collected vintage farm machinery and toy replicas, enjoyed rock collecting, made jewelry, and wood working. He was an avid reader, reading and collecting rare books. He was well versed in family history, and community history. Dan loved working with wood. He constructed his first building at the age of twelve. He built and designed all of his own buildings ever since and helped others with their construction problems. He enjoyed making model farm buildings and machinery for his nieces and nephews as well as wooden toys. Whether mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, cement work, he was able to master the job. "If it's worth doing, give it your best" was his motto. He was always willing to help family members and friends. Dan sacrificed much time and effort to make it possible for others to be successful. He was a good man, very talented, and much loved and respected. He had a tremendous sense of humor. His devotion to his mom enabled her to live out her days independently on her own farm. In the fall of 2007 he moved to the Jard Apartments due to failing health. After an extended illness in 2008 he moved to the Tekakwitha Living Center until his death on October 14, 2012.
