Celebration of Life Service for Daniel Vernon Brown, 97 of Sisseton SD will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Pat Schubert officiating. Organist will be Ollie Yost and special music by Pat Schubert. Urn Bearer will be Dillon Daniel Brown. Honorary Urn Bearers will be all of Dan's Friends & Relatives. Inurnment will be in the One Road Bethel Cemetery, Sisseton, S D with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342.

Daniel Vernon Brown was born on April 4 ^th , 1923 in Marshall County, South Dakota to Walter E. Brown & Lyda (Johnson) Brown. He attended school in Buffalo #3 and Palm schools through the eighth grade. Following his education he worked on the family farm. Planted, raised and harvested the varied grains including wheat, oats, barley, corn, rye, flax and hay. Assisted in the care of livestock, did considerable milking. Drove trucks and tractors in connection with the farm operation. Did maintenance work on the vehicles and repair of other farm machinery.

Dan at the age of 17 worked at the Civilian Conservation Corps under Adolphe J. Gadler, Camp Commander from April 8 ^th , 1940 until March 31 ^st , 1941 near Hill City, SD.

Dan was united in marriage to Lila Jordahl on February 7 ^th , 1945 at the parsonage near Grenville by Clemmence Dyrud. Dan was inducted into the Army on April 27 ^th , 1945. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the 3119 ^th Signal Service Battalion in the city of Kobe, Japan. In a Battalion Motor Pool repair installation made minor and major repairs to various types of army gasoline powered vehicles from jeeps to heavy duty trucks, ground valves, installed rings, replaced units, did trouble shooting, worked on the ignition systems and did considerable transmission work. Used mechanics tools. Work was equivalent to that of a journeyman mechanic in a civilian garage. He was discharged Oct. 29 ^th , 1946.

Dan and Lila owned and operated farm land in Drywood Lake Township. He built a stack mover and moved hay stacks, sheared sheep, built a sheep dipping tank, milked cows and raised sheep. He built a new home at the bottom of Thurston hill, then started purchasing and remodeling houses in the city of Sisseton including the one he and Lila moved into.

Dan is survived by two sons, Roger (LeAnn) Brown of Sisseton/Phoenix, AZ, Rick (Linda) Brown of Falls Creek, Wisconsin, three daughters, Donna (Jerry) Cordie, Barb Steiner & Fiancee Paul Solnar of Sisseton and Patricia Rippentrop of Sioux Falls, ten grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife Lila, his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to One Road Bethel Cemetery, Grace Lutheran Church or Tekakwitha Living Center.
