Obituary

Funeral Service for Dale Gene Torstenson, 88 of Sisseton South Dakota will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bible Fellowship Community Church, Peever, South Dakota with Pastor Ward Satterlee officiating. Organist will be Joanne Sheldon. Pall Bearers will be Darwin Torstenson, David Torstenson, James Torstenson, Steven Jacobs, Timothy Syverson, and Kelly Syverson. Honorary Pall Bearers will be all of Dale's Family and Friends. Interment will be in the One Road Bethel Cemetery, Sisseton, South Dakota with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50, and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the Cahill funeral Chapel from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, South Dakota is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Dale Gene Torstenson was born February 23, 1936, in Sisseton, South Dakota to Ole and Cora (Skogen) Torstenson. He grew up on the farm homesteaded by his family in One Road Township. He attended grade school until the 8th grade then he helped with the family farm. In 1958 Dale was drafted into the United States Army and went to basic training at Ft. Hood in Texas. Following basic training he was stationed in Germany for a year and half. He received the Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, he returned home to the farm, to help build a house in Sisseton for his parents, Dale was united in marriage to Ardella Niles on November 7, 1964. They lived on several different farms places until they purchased the Stanley Halseide farm and lived there for 37 years. Dale milked cows for twenty some years and then worked as a hired hand for different farmers in the area. In October 2007 they moved off the farm into Sisseton, where they lived for fifteen years before moving to Wagner, South Dakota in August 2023. He enjoyed restoring old tractors. Dale was a Member of the Bible Fellowship Community Church in Peever and a member of the Otto-Quande- Renville American Legion Post #50. Dale passed away on May 27, 2024, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, South Dakota.

Dale is survived by his wife Ardella of Wagner, South Dakota; two children, Douglas (Betty) Torstenson of Watertown, South Dakota and Darcy (Paul) Foster of Wagner, South Dakota; one brother, Orvin (Melody) Torstenson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sisters, Carol Torstenson of Watertown, South Dakota and Helen Jacobs of Ipswich, South Dakota;  grandchildren, Logan (Anna)Foster of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Luke Foster of Wagner, South Dakota, and Rakel Foster of Wagner, South Dakota, Chantelle Fieber of Goodwin, South Dakota and Heather Sacrison of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four great grandchildren, Julius Foster of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Madisyn Fieber, Liam Fieber and Rio Fieber  all of Goodwin, South Dakota.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Earl, Lyle, Manley, and Stanley Torstenson.
