Celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kay Reeb officiating.  Urn bearers will be Dale's Grandkids. Honorary Urn Bearers will be Ronnie Bucklin, Randy Lekness, Allen Lekness, Ray Christianson, Gary Christianson, Harry Moshier, and Rory Iverson. Organist will be Amy Currence and soloist will be Cindy Marohl. There will be visitation on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 5:00-6:00 P.M. at Cahill's Funeral Chapel, with a Prayer Service at 6:00 P.M. Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, South Dakota is in charge of arraignments.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dale William Rice, age 69, on September 22, 2024, with his beloved son, Billy, at his side.

Dale was born on December 8, 1954, in Sisseton, SD, where he grew up and began his journey as a man of many talents. He earned his GED and pursued a variety of careers, showcasing his ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. Dale also earned an associate's degree in computers. Throughout his life, Dale was a jack of all trades, a man who could seemingly do and fix anything. He owned and operated a flower shop, a landscape company, a hay grinding business alongside his father, a machine and muffler shop in Peever, and became a certified police officer in 1976, working for the Sisseton Police Department. His work for the Sisseton School District at the bus barn, as well as the launch of his computer repair business, reflected his diverse skills and determination.

During the 30 years he lived in Peever, SD, Dale would visit Char's Café in Peever and drink coffee and swap stories. Dale lived in Sioux Falls, SD since 2018, and during that time, he became a cherished member of the neighborhood. His hobbies reflected his love for family and craftsmanship. Dale spent countless hours with his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He loved to fish, make handcrafted canes, lamps, and picture frames for Harry Moshier's artwork, watch his granddaughter's play basketball, play cards and, of course, tinker and fix anything that needed repairing. He was known for his devotion to Grizzly Wintergreen, his favorite chewing tobacco, and his love for old cars, particularly his prized Impala from his drag racing days. He also loved to collect antiques, whether it was a painting, an old model car, or old telephones; he collected them and showed them off to any visitors in his home. Dale was a great friend, father, and grandfather; he always shared people's talents and accomplishments and how proud he was.

Dale's life was marked by a love for visiting friends in Peever, Sisseton, Wilmot, and anywhere his friendships took him. He had an infectious sense of humor, a hearty laugh, and a voice that could fill any room. His ability to connect with others and make friends to share stories with was one of his most treasured traits.

Dale was a long-standing member of Peever Lutheran Church, where his faith and community were deeply important to him. Dale's love, kindness, and humor will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

Dale is survived by his son William (Holly) Rice of Sisseton, SD; daughter Alison (Mike) Hulshof of Sioux Falls, SD; step-daughter Olivia (Tyler) Braun of New Effington, SD; grandchildren Veronica, Ruby, Stella, and MaryAnn Rice, Oliver, Violet, and Lillian Kringstad, and Sophie, Beatrice, and Geneva Hulshof; sister Julie (Gary) Halseide of Sisseton, SD; brothers Timmy (Joan) Rice of Peever, SD and Bryan Rice of Minneapolis, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents Beatrice (Tostenson) and William Scott Rice; brother Danny Rice; maternal grandparents Henry and Hilma (Simonson); paternal grandparents Benjamin and Anna (Troxell) Rice.
