Obituary

Funeral Service for Cyril Jacob Peters, 80 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Jennie Lynn Evenson officiating. Organist will be Gloria Slaamot and soloist will be Jon Schafer. Pallbearers will be Douglas Tasa, Mark Tasa, Jay Tasa, Terry Week, Tom Week and Dale Peters. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Cy's friends. Interment will be in Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Military Rites by Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Sunday, September 26, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and Monday, September 27, 2010 from 9:00 AM to Service time at Cahill Funeral Chapel. Cyril Jacob Peters was born on July 16, 1930 in White Lake, SD to Frank and Julietta (Mairose) Peters. Cy graduated from White Lake High School in 1948. Cy served in the United States Army from October 1951 to October 1953, where he received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He then went on to attend Dakota Wesleyan University graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Cy was united in marriage to Carol Tasa on December 31, 1960 at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD. The couple made their home in Minneapolis before moving to Aberdeen in 1970. They lived in Devils Lake, ND Mobridge, SD and Salt Lake City, Utah before returning to Sisseton in 1983. Cy worked for Commodity Credit as an elevator inspector and as a Land appraiser for the Bureau of Land Management. Cy retired in 1983. Carol and Cy managed the Holiday Motel from 1983 to 1985. Cy enjoyed the summer weekends at their cabin on Clear Lake. Cy enjoyed tinkering on the house and his cars. Cy passed away on September 21, 2010 at this home in Sisseton.
Cy is survived by four sons, Wayne Peters and Steve Peters of Salt Lake City, Utah, Neil and wife, Kimberly Peters of Denver, Co, and Tim and wife, Kara Peters of Minnetonka, MN; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Lillburn and wife, Mary Peters of White Lake, SD; brother-in-law Douglas and wife, Linda Tasa of Coon Rapids, MN and a sister-in-law, Mary Neiland of Fargo, ND.
Cy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol, one son Paul; two brothers, Jerome and Joe Peters; three sisters, Rebecca Reuland, Ivoe Hansen and an infant sister, Eileen Peters.
