Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at the Peever Community Center, Peever. SD with Irv Slaamot officiating, Eulogy by Bruce Meyers. Special Music and readings by Sheridan, Brooklyn and Carlee Swanson, Olivia and Isabelle Stephes, Holly and Averee Anderson Sheilah Pond, Meranda Shindelbower and Dell Williams. Urn Bearer will be Sheridan Swanson.  Honorary Urn bearers will be All of Scottie's Granddaughters. Inurnment will be in the Peever Cemetery. Peever. SD. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service.

Cora Ellen (Meyers) Richards "Scottie," 76, of Peever, SD, passed away on January 27, 2024, at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton SD.

Cora Ellen Meyers, also called Ellen by some, or Scottie by her preference, was born on November 20, 1947, in Frankfurt, Germany, to her parents, Leonard Leroy and Darlene Mae (Galt) Meyers, both of Carrington, ND. Scottie's dad and stepdad moved around a lot. Scottie had lived in Bagotville, Quebec, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, California, Oklahoma, Fargo and West Fargo in ND, many places in St. Paul and Minneapolis and suburbs, and Duluth in MN, Philip, SD; also, Granite Falls and Wood Lake, MN, before her move to Peever, SD.
She graduated in 1965 from Roseville High School, Roseville, MN. She attended 2+ years at the University of MN, in both St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses. Scottie met Ernest John Richards on a trail ride in SD in 1983, and married Ernie on July 28, 1984, at Assembly of God Church in Sisseton, SD. Ernie believes that the Lord wanted him to marry her and take care of her and her three daughters: Janene, Jennifer, and Jill Denkinger. Ernie loves the girls and their families and raised them as his own. They are truly his family! Scottie was blessed with a husband who was always there for her and the girls, in spite of the fact that she had many health issues. Early in their marriage, Ernie worked full-time at SD Department of Transportation in addition to ranching. Ernie made time for the girls' sports, 4-H, snow queen contests, and rodeo queen contests, for which they were very thankful.
Grateful for having shared their lives with Scottie and Ernie are their daughters Janene (Hank) Swanson and granddaughters, Sheridan, Brooklyn, and Carlee of Fargo, ND; Jennifer (Andrew) Stephes and granddaughters, Olivia and Isabelle of Faribault, MN; and Jill Denkinger of St. Cloud, MN; brothers Bruce (Diane) Meyers and Gary (Rachel) Holtgard.
Scottie was preceded in death by her dad, Leonard, stepmom, Betty, mom, Darlene, and wonderful stepdad, Fred.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local Humane Society (she loves all kinds of animals and birds), or, specifically, a memorial to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, P.O. Box 5007, Minot, ND 58702-5007, a Christian organization (home) for troubled kids from dysfunctional homes; they use horse therapy among other things to reach and comfort these children.  Many lives have been turned around for the positive. This was her favorite charity to support as that is what Ernie had provided for Scottie and the girls when he married her, helping make many of their dreams come true.
Scottie's family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of Prairie Lakes Hospice and Tekakwitha Living Center for their care of her during her final days.
