Obituary

Funeral Mass for Connie Faye Brown, 63, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Kateri's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Fr. Ken Lulf and Levi Keoke officiating. Pallbearers will be Craig Nelson, Jeremy Keoke, Anthony Keoke, Black Cloud White, Chiefy White, Merle Sing, Elias Hawk, and Chauncey Hill. Honorary Pallbearers will be All of Connie's friends, staff at Tekakwitha Nursing Center, Iris Keoke, Fena Redwing, Gayle Armell, Sharon Keeble, Sandra White, Sharon White, Crystal White, Mary Griffin, Peggy King, Denise Nelson, Mary Lou Thompson, Cheryl Spider, and Anna Thompson. There will be an all-night wake service Friday, January 24, 2025, starting at 7:00 P.M. at St. Kateri's Hall, Sisseton, SD. Drum Group will be Old Agency Singers. Interment will be at the Canku Family Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

Connie Faye Nelson was born on February 13, 1961 in Eagle Butte, South Dakota to Irene Rose Swiftbird and Peter L. Nelson Jr. Connie was raised up with her mother and stepfather Freeman White Hawk, Sr. She was brought up in Hammon, Oklahoma. She attended school there. She also attended schools in Nebraska, California, and Texas. She was then introduced into her father's family. She grew up in Browns Valley, Minnesota where she also attended school.

Connie met Kenny Brown. They had 5 children. Conrad, Candace, Colleen, Eric and Dustin. In her later years she had another son, Andre Nelson. Connie gave him up and placed him in the care of her sister Ann White Hawk and late husband Jose Martinez.  Connie passed away on January 20, 2025 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD.

She is survived by her 5 children; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters Bonita Nelson, Dallas, Tx; Ann White Hawk, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Teresa Hawk Marron, Pierre, SD; and 1 brother Freeman Hawk Jr. Agency Village, SD; adopted sister Alvera Enoch, Sisseton, SD

Connie is preceded by her husband Kenny; parents Buddy and Irene Nelson; stepfather Freeman White Hawk Sr.; 4 sisters Sharon Nelson, Rita Nelson, Rose Keoke, and Catherine Hawk; her paternal grandparents Antoine Swiftbird and Mercy Little Eagle, Christine Moran & Peter Nelson Sr.
