Obituary

Funeral Service for Clifford Dean Nielsen, 85, of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Peever Lutheran Church, Peever, SD with Rev. Steve Moberg officiating. Organist will be Mona Greseth and soloist will be Janeen Kohl. Pallbearers will be Allyn Ammann, Harold Fryer, Jon Gonsor, Allyn Gonsor, Clarence Nielsen, and Gordon P. Nielsen. Honorary Pallbearers will be "all of Clifford's friends and neighbors." Interment will be in the Peever Cemetery, Peever, SD. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 16, 20l0 from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 PM. with family present from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Cahill Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Clifford Dean Nielsen was born on February 14, 1925 near Wilmot, SD to Pedar and Jennie (Stensing) Nielsen. He grew up and attended country school. After his education he started farming with his father. On September 29, 1947 he was married to Edna Drovdal in Webster, SD. The couple moved to a farm near Sisseton, SD where they farmed until retirement. In 1993 Clifford started working for the Conservation Department planting trees. He also worked for area farmers. Edna passed away on December 21, 1996. On June 6, 1998 Clifford was married to Adelina Lomuntad in Peever, SD. Clifford liked to play cards, mow grass, work in his garden, and care for his fruit trees. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, and enjoyed bird watching. He was a longtime member of the Peever Lutheran Church. Clifford passed away suddenly on March 13, 2010 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, SD after a short illness.
Clifford is survived by his wife, Adelina Nielsen of Sisseton, SD and two sons and their wives, Kent and Carol Nielsen and Keith and Mona Nielsen all of Sisseton, SD; two step-children Debbie and husband Larry Halbert of Browns Valley, MN and Arlene and husband Jojo Bianes of the Philippines; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Edna, one grand-daughter Danielle, a brother Clarence, and two sisters, Bernice Olson, and Doris Gonsor.
