Cletus LeRoy George was born on July 2, 1936 at Sisseton, SD to Jack and Mildred (Fuller) George. He attended Catholic School until the eighth grade and gained his faith from his parents and relatives. He was a devoted member of St. Peter's and St. Catherine's parishes and was known for his singing ability to lift the Mass. His graduation was delayed a year with his father's passing and he graduated in 1956. He enjoyed playing football and he was the quarterback and was known as a great player earning halfback of the year honors. After high school he coached his girl cousins during softball season. Cletus married Darla Brown on May 22, 1956 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD and to this union seven children were born. They were married for 61 years.

Cletus worked numerous jobs over the years supporting his family. He worked logging in Montana, road construction, and Fuller Brush sales. He worked as a trucker for Thompson Bros., Eastern Dakota Trucking, Dady Distributing, GLB Industries, and Medhaug Farms. He also worked for Old Home Bread, Schiltz Goose Farms, and Gunners Pub. His greatest joy was working on the farm caring for his "girls", the sheep, cattle, geese, and chickens. He also enjoyed gardening and crafting projects with Darla.

Cletus suffered two strokes 15 years ago and Darla became his voice, knowing what he was trying to say while we all played the guessing game. His four legged companions also seemed to know what he meant. Cletus and Darla were cared for by family members as their health declined. Darla passed away on June 21, 2017. Cletus continued to live in Frankfort, SD under family care until the time of his death.

He is a part of the large George family and is survived by six children, Daniel of Colorado, DeeAnna of Westport, SD, Glen of Rapid City, SD, Sharla of Frankfort, SD, Robert and Lisa of Frankfort, SD, and David of Sisseton, SD, 15 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Donna Wise, Lois and Norman Tchida, Marian and Joe Valentine, and Lorraine and Wayne Kelly, all of Sisseton, SD, three sisters-in-law, Devra and Joel Stapleton of Modesto, CA, Diane Lohre George of Brandon, SD, and Darlene George of Valley City, ND and numerous other relatives.
