Funeral Service for Clara Louise Small, 79, of Peever, SD will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 12:00 PM at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with the Rev. Enright BigHorn and Gerald Heminger Jr. officiating. Pianists will be Mary Beth Kirk and Billy Kohl with special music by the Big Coulee Choir. Pallbearers will be Fredrick Small, Clayton Small, Jason Albrecht, Adrian Archambeau, Elton Flute Jr., Wayne Cloud Jr., and Arlen Renville Sr. Honorary Pallbearers will be LaVelva Williams, Mable Neilan, Doris Burshiem, Rita Finley-McBride, Margie Ragsdale, Lorna Anderson, Dorothy Ackerman, Vastana James, Katy McKay, Darlene Kitto, Beatrice Wanna, Joan Spider, Edna Max, Verna Sargent, Marion LaCroix, Rosella Heminger, Alta German, Marlene Ironheart, Lorraine German, Alma Renville, Doris Donald, Marcella Haug, Peggy Johnson, Lois Stengel, Kathy Qually, Mary Jean Tease, Glen Brooks, Joyce and Jim Pickthorn. Interment will be in Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Peever, SD.
The Wake Services will be held at the Tribal community Center, Agency village, SD on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 7:00 PM with an all night wake on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 starting at 7:00 PM. Clara was born on August 27, 1931 at Ft. Peck Agency, Montana to Fritz and Lizzie (Alexis) Small. Clara grew up and attended school in Ft. Peck and also at the Wahpeton Boarding School. Following her education she helped her mother in raising the family. Clara was united in marriage to Charles N. Amos Sr. on May 20, 1954 in Wheaton, MN. The couple settled in Big Coulee and raised their family. She liked to sew, grow flowers and vegetables, work on puzzles and write in her journal. She was a pen pal with many folks around the world. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Clara passed away peacefully on January 22, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family after a brief battle with lung cancer.
Clara is survived by her husband Charles N. Amos Sr. of Peever, SD; nine children, Charles W. Amos Jr. of Peever, SD, Caril D. Amos and Jeff Schoenrock of Peever, SD, Collette M. White of Peever, SD, Kimberly J. Amos of Sisseton, SD, Genevieve L. Amos-Renville of Agency Village, SD, Marlon M. Amos of Agency Village, SD, Gerald A. Amos of Peever, SD, Steven R. Amos of Sisseton, SD and Daren W. Amos of Peever, SD.; one cousin Doris Greeley-Donald of Minneapolis, MN; adopted son, Dennis Hopkins, of Isabel, SD; one sister-in-law, Shiego Small of Fairfield CA; and adopted daughter, Lois Jackson of Peever, SD; thirty grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, two children, Calvin D. Amos Sr. and Rochelle D. Amos; two grandchildren, Daniel Amos and Calvin Amos Jr.; two great grandchildren, Terrell Razo and Micah Amos; four brothers, Sylvester, Austin, Daniel and Justin; and three sisters, Naomi, Genevieve and Clara.
