Obituary

Funeral Service for Cindy "Cookie" Rae LaBatte, Wicanhpi To Win, (Blue Star Woman), 54, of Veblen, SD will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine's Hall, Sisseton, SD with Rev Les Campbell and Episcopal Lay Readers officaiting. Organist will be Billy Kohl with special music by Butch Felix. Pallbearers will be Elden Wanna, Nicholas Wanna, Jason LaBatte, Josh LaBatte, Robert Williams, and Austin Barse. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mona Williams, Gail Williams, Kayla White, Brenda Solberg, Linda Crawford, Darlene Wanna and Brenda LaCroix. Interment will be in St. Luke's' Episcopal Cemetery, Veblen, SD. Wake Services will be held at St. Catherine's Hall on Thursday and Friday at 7:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Cindy Rae was born on January 24, 1958 in St. Louis, MO to Adrian Dionne and Janis Wanna. She grew up and attended school in Wahpeton, ND. She was adopted by her step father Orville LaBatte Sr. Following her education she attended the NDSSS at Wahpeton, ND for business. She was married to Mike Rollette in August of 1979. He passed away in January of 1980. She was married in December of 1992 to Dan Krushel. She moved to Veblen, in 2002 where she cooked at the Farmers Inn Café in Claire City, SD. Cindy cooked at numerous places during her lifetime. Cindy liked to do beadwork, fish and played pool. She had many trophies for playing pool. Cindy was diagnosed with cancer in 2010 and was in remission from May to December, when the cancer returned. Cindy passed away on October 31, 2012 at the Coteau Des Prairies Hospital.
Cindy is survived by her mother, Janis LaBatte of Veblen, SD; three children, Jason LaBatte of Veblen, SD; Tashina (Richard) Parisien of Bismarck, ND, and Danni Krushel of Bismarck, ND; one sister, Danita Weston of Minneapolis, MN; two brothers, Brian Dionne of Wisconsin, and Josh LaBatte of Wahpeton, ND; one granddaughter, Althea LaBatte of Fargo, ND.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father, three brothers, David, Darren and Orville Jr., maternal and paternal grandparents; numerous aunts and uncles and a cousin Lola Wanna.
